i am not looking forward to ANY form of power whatsoever...

eventually in a post SHTF world, gasoline or any form of fossil fuel will be almost if not a form a currency, and eventually it might become potentially dangerous to have a "movie night"

so...what have i been doing?

books...and plenty of them, im not gonna sit here and lie to you and tell you im collecting mark twain books, or mathematical theories books....NO

to be honest, im collecting comic books, and plenty of them...

if you are going to get into the book collecting business i recommend keeping the ENTERTAINING ones, things that you might read again and again, and also try having some survival books handy...

so my entertainment plans for the apocalypse....

comic books

Much of the entertainment available will be the same as that entertained back in the Depression... cards, talking, quilting bees, corn shuckings, homemade music, dances, making things, fishing, checkers, reading and writing.. story telling.

My dad said they would have a corn shucking. Basically, the farmer grew enough hard shell seed corn to grind meal and feed for the year. So, after pulling the dried ears of corn from the stalk and field, you would have a massive pile of corn. Neighbors would gather and literally it in a circle around the pile and shuck it to put into the corn crib...when someone would shuck the random ear that turned out red...they would get to drink from the jar of corn liquor.

You had some great ideas until I read this line.
How can you even suggest such things?
If man could learn to get over his blood lust, we wouldn't be preparing to see such harsh times that lie in our wake.
We'd have a hell of a lot more time to play games if we didn't have to keep watch for marauding invaders with violent intentions. We could actually get along and barter like civilized beings.
I know what I'm talking about. I have a dog, three parrots, and three rabbits. None of them are kept in cages and all of them get along with each other. It's very harmonious. Humans will never be able to do this. They just can't seem to get a grasp on living together. Those who enjoy seeing pain and bloodshed have a while to go before they can be considered enlightened.

/end of rant.

Although, in the event that something happened to me and the animals were on their own until someone came to feed them. I'm sure if a week had gone by, my dog would start eyeing up the birds and rabbits. Once food becomes scarce, it's every man for himself.

As a friend of mine would say, "get dronk, get nakkid, mack babys".

Seriously though, we would all be too busy worrying about important things like eating!

Pardon me.

By all means, we can assume that the burnt-out, post-apocalyptic shell of our civilization will be politically correct.

Delete my reference to animal combat. Substitute the phrase "diversity festival" instead.

I was far from trying to be politically correct. I was just pointing out how barbaric "civilized" humans actually are. This trait is one that we can not rise above, so we will continually be keeping ourselves down.

Seeing as you and probably others are up for enjoying blood shed as a form of entertainment, why stop at animals? This way, you nor anybody else can complain when placed in a cage and ordered to fight to the death.

I expect that things will be a lot more "Lord of the Flies" than that.

Trial by Ordeal.

Edit to Add:

I have never participated or contributed to any kind of animal cruelty event. I don't support it. I have no animal pets. Just because I made a crappy joke doesn't mean I'm the exact monster you are ready to vilify.

A variety of my one-liners were designed to highlight the irony/incongruity of looking for entertainment during the height of a civilization-level catastrophe. The enterprise was doomed to failure from the beginning. There's just nothing funny about barbarity and privation.

Lesson learned: if you lob enough jokes into a situation. There is going to be at least one stinker. So stop before you reach that point.

mea culpa.

Keep in mind that a purpose of entertainment can also be escapism.

A role play game, pen and paper, book based (or ebook) gets the mind going, it keeps imagination sharp and trains the brain. You keep thinking, you don't learn the game and tune out, I have never seen anyone fall asleep during an RPG.

Initially, you may even want to RP a "worst case scenario" of the outside world, there is more than enough material out there. A handful of dice and some paper, you have entertainment which will last.

What movie would you pick to make things better?...to send a message, so to speak. And also entertaining.

Battle of Los Angeles.

Stepping up and GIt-r-done.

And get real War is the ultimate shtf and even they have down time and R and R and morale is of the utmost importance.

Ask veterans this.

I'm picturing a group of adults acting out the story of Star Wars for an attentive audience of kids, hehe....

I'm sure we'd revert back to the same diversions that existed before electrical power came into play...games, music, plays, dance, etc.

Never considered this before so definite s & f from me!

I suppose it depends upon variables like exactly what s has hit the fan - if it is extreme radiation fallout then maybe 6 legged horse racing?
While tongue in cheek, i actually mean that in the sense that differing scenarios have differing options. For example, if electricity is still available, all sorts of options are potentially still open.

However, for most scenarios, i suspect it would be as Gazrok has said above.
