Tool

LOL. I was going to say the same thing. Saw them live and I was speechless. I would put Tool up against any super group ever constructed. You will never understand until you go and see them live. Peace.
edit on 24-2-2012 by Wizayne because: Tool is too powerful.

Keyboards: LOL you kept reading! there are no keyboards in heavy metal, well until the musicians sell out and cross over into mainstream...
When it comes to keyboards and "not selling out" the band that first comes to mind would be the Doors who first album was filled with keyboards and their first hit song, light my fire,a number one hit,is laced with keyboards throughout...

And check this supergroup out...

Joe Elliot...{From the early 1980's Def Leppard}...Vocals
Ace Frehley...{From the mid 1970's Kiss}...Guitar
Bruce Harris...{From the mid 1980's Iron Maiden}...Bass
Neal Peart...{From the early 1980's Rush}...Drums

Additional guitarist(just for flavor)- Morello.

Frontman? There is only one- Freddie.

Oh no, you totally misunderstood me.
I was referring to heavy metal.
There have been many EPIC bands with keys and even some with a brass section.
Chicago, Toto, EW&F, many more too many to list.
I was mostly jabbing at my No.1 band as a youth that has since 1984 slowly deteriorated into a ....state fair sideshow?
Van Halen, LOL Volfgang?

Now, this one has to be the best band anyone EVER thought of:

Vocals - Ozzy Osbourne
Bass - Geezer Butler
Guitar - Tony Iommi
Drums - Bill Ward

Oh, wait...

Oh i see and i agree...Perhaps "maybe" the only acceptable use of keyboards in a metal band that i can think of is the first two Dio solo albums,Holy Diver 1983 and The Last In Line 1984.Imagine Judas Pieist with keyboards?...Not!...Heres another fantasy line-up that i thought of...

Rob Halford...{from the late 1970's early 80"s judas priest}...Vocals
Vivian Campbell...{from dio,whitesnake and def leppard!}...Guitar
Cliff Burton...{from the first few metallica albums}...Bass
John Bonham...{from the early 1970's led zeppelin}...Drums

They would be Hard and Heavy hitting magic for sure...
