Use the internet, there are still warehouses around that still carry the older OPS, buy them from them.
I don't put credit card info online. I put very little truthful personal info online. For example, nothing on my FB page is accurate except my name.

Doesn't really matter nowadays if hackers want your info they will get it from everywhere they can. Your information ended up on the internet the day it was created.

Some child in a basement will get the windows 8 super duper ultra edition.. Tear out the features he doesn't want. edit the installer, and put it out for downloading.

It just looks like Microsoft been ignoring what game company's continually fail at doing in including these draconian measures. Theres smarter and more capable programmers not working for the company out there.

Anything comes up on the web that people download.
and THEY dont like it. they just delete it ALL.

So use Ubuntu.
it is catching Windows up fast.
and you can run it from the CD.
or have it as a Dual boot.
all very easy to do.

and Ubuntu IS the Beat for using the Internet.

This!

Sadly not for a dual monitor setup using two cards and then watching HD video while wanting to play things only made for a M$ environment.

I can forgive all of the above except the HD video

And thats not Ubuntu at all.. thats friggen ATI.

I'm bound to my hardware now.. argh!!! I wish I could afford an nvidia card.

Anyone wanna sell me a $2 nvidia card??
not from 1998 tho.

A kill switch that has control to anything other than programs woud have heavy legal issues behind it. From the sound of things, basically software from their app store will have to phone home, and their kill switch will tell them its pirated/etc and the software will not run. Any software that gains any unauthorised access to my PC would be criminal, even if I agree to it within the EAULA it would invalidate itself beause its asking to do something inherantly illegal.
Also, imagine all the big corperations that will not want a kill switch in their operating system. Microsoft gets a major portion of its sales to corperations who buy VLKs.

LOL at al the Microsoft bashing going on. In my experiance, half the people bashing Windows still use a Windows OS themselves. This will not change the market for the worse for Microsoft, infact it Windows 8 will do significant good for them. It will bridge the gap between portable and destop(/laptop). Something which apple is nowhere near, appearences are slightly similar but other than that theres nothing. Google's OS is going in another direction to its phone's os (ie being just a browser).
The reasons people don't use macs and linux OS' are still the same. I don't see the point in using an os other than Windows. Sure I get more control in linux, but its not much more, and it just hands me a load of controls I don't even want to play around with. I want me OS to function as is and not have to # around with ndiswrapper to get a driver working or having to # around turning off soft buttons that don't like to work. All at the expense o losing out on my important windows software. I'd lose out on my extensive games library, and before you bitch about wine, it doesn't always work. I've tested it with alot of software and faied on a majority. The only use I have for Linux is debian on my server bcause of its lightweight ness (don't need this desktop side because I want my desktop to be a beast of a Machine). I'd probably consider getting a Mac if I had alot of expendable income to waste and wanted to get into graphic design/movie editing etc.
Windows still rules and you know it. Vista was a massive ballsup, but 7 came out quick and fixed that. I've not had a problem with Windows for a good two years, I think since I started using 7 I've only BSOD'd once because of a game not liking my graphics card. Yes,, viruses target windows more often, thats because more people use windows. Every time somebody says "well there are more viruses for windows" makes me want to shout at them and say "well duh!". It seems an obvious point, you want to give somebody a virus you give the a virus that will actually effect them, more people using windows = more windows viruses. Even these people bitching forget there are alot more exploits out there for linux systems. I hear abot alot more severe (remote) exploits for linux software, hell everyone hears about sqli exploits and rootkits (theres what, probably two rootkits in the wild for windows and tonnes out there for linux).Daemons that run on web server and desktops alike like proftpd and the ikes.
The only way a person gets a virus on Windows is if they're an idiot. Generally there are no running daemons on a windows machine, so nothing for a user to remotely exploit. The only way people get exploited is if they go to a suspicious internet site. Or if they download something suspicious. (in linux unless you're using the latest version of a software I could just hook into that listening port and take remote control of your entire system without your knowledge). I can't find the source but I remember reading that 80% of infected machines were infefcted by somebody downloading a suspicious file.

Windows bashing has to stop.

I'll stick with windows 7 until the games i play no longer support it. Then i'll switch to Apple and Bill Gates can kiss my ass.

Holy SNAP! You have it all wrong.

Once windows doesnt support your software, time to go free. Not pay even MORE for hardware AND software.

Crikey... are all the citizens on the internet deluded??

You can't run apple os on your measly desktop pc you built you know... well you can, but it's illegal. You have to buy apple hardware.

weee, no wonder they all make so much money!

I have almost no online footprint. I don't have internet at home for example. I do no business online. I put no real information anywhere online. My information was "created" before the internet.

Thats another thing that bugs me, when people compare the two OS' tehy use words like It sucks, or Its awesome. Nothing helpful in anyway, no reasoning behind it. Just makes me think people on the internet are just 14 year olds who lack the skills to type anyhting more descriptive or be able to make a point about anything.

The people who say Windows suck and it's a bad OP are mostly beginners and people who just have no clue about Computers. They live their system open for intruders, install all software they can find, without even looking what they install. Those are the people that have 60+ processes running in the background, have their browser filled with useless toolbars and the hardware full of adware and trojans and then wonder, why nothing works. With Windows you just need to take care, check the system and make sure the Autostart isn't filled with 50 useless programs. But most people ignore that and than blame Microsoft for their faults and stupidity .

I use Windows since 3.11 and the only one that made problems, was Windows 95 as it was crap.
In fact i use Apple PCs in my college and have 2 Apple Laptops and i experience more crap with them. Just the amount of botched and non-working Updates for the OS, Apple releases is breathtaking and it's so much fun that after an Update that reverts the OS version down instead of up so a lot of programs refuse to work. Which is also a funny Apple scheme: They just stop supporting an OS version after a couple of years, flatout saying you have to buy the newest version if you want to use certain programs. While Microsoft at least cares a bit more about their customers, even the by those standards really old Windows XP is still supported and will be until 2014!

I celebrated the day that idiot Steve Jobs died, would've been better if he took his "Hey look, we're Mainstream and produce overpriced crap for stupid Hipsters!" company with him

That wont be strictly true, other corperations keep records online. There is alot of real life information that has been made public. There are also databses that exist, that with your real name peoplec can find out cells/addresses etc.
If you mean there is nothing to link your online handle with your real name, then thats easily done. (Before you go searching out my real name its not much of a challenge ecause I don't really care that much).
Not going online or at home is a bit extreme and you're missing out on alot of interent time. Also if you're in a public place using the internet, thats probably less private than doing it at home. Those places have cameras and if you've ever used your card near it or your real name, ie buying a coffee or a bus/train ticket that would be linked to you if somebody was looking. Also, in a public place you're missing out on the wonders of porn! I hope you're missing out on them...

I have 90 running processes in the background, but with my build it handles it fine.
I think the problem is, people expect so much from a crappy desktop build. They buy the cheapest on the market, or as you say run hundreds of processes on it and bitch when it runs slow. Then some kid under peer pressure installs ubuntu and is like OMG IT RUNS SO FAST, even tho he's running less, and worse less damanding versions of software.

I deal strictly in cash. I don't have a bank anymore. My cell phone is a cash thing, basically a burner phone though I have had it for 3 years now. I don't use the bus or train, I expect them to become tsa infected soon. I do everything strictly cash for the last 2-3 years.

I dunno, maybe they can trace you with the id number on your cash, that sequential number on your money. Your employer or whoever gives you money can note your numbers, or whoever wants to could get thee ids before you get them, then link them to a sale. Theoretiaclly a bank does this or can do this. They must track bills. Since they can they could track it to lets say an employer and where they recieved it from ie a shop.
Theres no such thing as real privacy in the real world. If somebody wants to invade on your privacy they will. Hell somebody can go to the extend of stalking you. All they'd need to do is know your real name and they could follow you and note everything down online.
Which brings it neatly back to the main topic, if Windows wants to put remote shutdown features into their OS, they can do it without you knowing. If they want to do something as malicious as this I doubt they'd have nothing against doing it in secret.
