So true. It was a principle of warfare that controlling the citizen's ability to eat would weaken any resistance.

What was that Paul 'Muadib" Atreides said in Frank Herbert's "Dune" series?

"He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing."

And Monsanto has never been closer to, or making more progress towards, controlling the global food supply... apparently, one way or the other, our so-called leaders are helping... so long as they don't have to eat it themselves.

Ahhh, I am reminded, once again, of an all time favorite quote of mine...

There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today!......There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business.

from the movie, Network,...1976...yep, we were warned, we were warned...

the freedom of information act is a joke
any requests that would actually provide us with information or get us anywhere is met with "national security" or "industry secrets"
and the worst part is i constantly hear people bringing up the freedom of information act claiming things like "they just didnt record it so it nobody could request it through freedom of information"

come on we wouldnt possibly do anything wrong after all you guys would all find out because that pesky freedom of information act!
