Gallup Poll Feb 2012: Iran is Americas #1 Enemy

Iran tops the list of countries that Americans consider the greatest enemy of the United States, followed by China, according to a new Gallup World Affairs poll released Monday.

Alarm over Iran’s growing nuclear capabilities, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s belligerent threats of war against the United States and Israel, and the possibility of a disruption in oil flow leading to higher gas prices are propelling Americans’ negative views of the Middle East nation, according to Gallup. For example, 87 percent of those surveyed gave Iran an unfavorable rating, the most negative measured in the survey.

The Feb. 2-5 poll of 1,029 adults found that 32 percent of those surveyed ranked Iran as the nation’s greatest enemy, an increase of 7 percentage points from last year. Almost 25 percent listed China as the top threat, followed by North Korea with 10 percent; Afghanistan at 7 percent; and Iraq, at 5 percent.

Democrat .. Republican .. does't matter. Across the board, Americans see Iran as the #1 enemy.
Considering the rhetoric out of Iran and it's stranglehold on it's people, I'm not surprised.
But I would have thought that China, which is now THE economic power in the world, would have
been more disturbing to people. They have direct power over the USA, while Iran has a bunch
of hot air and bad intentions (is a sponsor of international terrorism).

Well said...according to our own congressional committee appraisals (much to the surprise of the congressmen asking the questions), Russia and China are a much greater threat to US national security than Iran.

The media and politicians driving it are mind-bendingly successful at crafting public opinion to enable whatever they want to do, and the citizens en masse seem dumb enough to keep falling for it. Fear and ignorance...oi vey.

it's quite mind boggling indeed, considering congress's disapproval rating is around 84%, yet throw iran in the mix and 87% agree with them. spin city

I know you are talking Israel, but as far as I can see it's China. Israel is on the list of course, but China has it's death grip on the heart of this country. All it has to do is squeeze and we will pop. Iran? baaaah. But China ... they are 'the man' now and we've handed the USA over to them without even a second thought ...

Our MSM and government, in collusion with each other, are way more of a threat than Iran will ever be to the U.S. Truthfully, I have no fear, at all, of Iran. None. Iran is about as scary and threatening as a vacuum cleaner.

Let's keep this in perspective.
There were 1029 people polled from all 50 states AND the District of Columbia, Washington DC. That is what, roughly 20 people per state on average.
If the respondent was speaking Spanish, the questions were in Spanish.
Out of this 1029, 329 or so total think Iran is the biggest enemy, or about 6 or 7 people per state on average.
But yet, they claim a 95 percent accuracy that this is within about 4 points or less for the national opinion.
Bull.
This is like declaring a winner of an election calling 20 people per state, not disclosing the numbers BY STATE, with a tiny fraction of the vote counted.

Israel is the biggest threat to the USA but some the media is controlled by special interest groups they won't tell you that

you will be afraid, very afraid.... of who we tell you to be afraid of.

let me guess, in february 2003, there was some stupid poll saying Iraq is Americas number 1 enemy.

The invasion was launched March 19, 2003. This means there was a general consensus among people that a war was imminent, but was still months away at that time.

America number 1 enemy is the US government and the banksters running it.

Whoever says otherwise doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.
