The one thing I don't understand is Iran "militarizing" Hormuz. If another countries war vessels were patrolling our waters here in the states, we would increase our presence in the water as well as we wouldn't want to be caught with our "pants down".

"Why is Iran giving us excuses to attack them?"

TPTB will install a new puppet regime after the planned coup d'état.

WAR will insure a limited negative response from the population and allow a popular new regime to take over.
(just like 1953, and 1979)

The business interests are alive and well in Iran. Always have been.

You have to remember you are looking this through the lens of someone in the West. What Iran sees is weakness. They have conducted proxie wars, terror attacks, assasinations, attemped coups, mined the gulf, attacked civilian oil tankers, attacked US and Soviet ships in the Gulf, tried to bomb Kuwaits oil fields all since the revolution. And what has the west done about it? Some santions. Iran can push and push and maybe at the worst they expect some airsrikes in response. They see weakness and doubt the US or anyone else has the balls to come at them. This has proven to be the case for 4 decades and so far they still seem to be right. Where ATS sees western warmongers, Irans sees western impotence.

When you get big and mighty a little provocation gets you irritated. All these provocations have not hurt a hair on your head wheras the sanctions imposed are hurting the Iranian state. Now who is the provoker you tell me. Lets be fair ... am not taking sides here. Just like to point out who is feeling the hurt now by this whole affair.
