It's a modern Frankenstein, miniaturized but potentially far more monstrous: a man-made virus capable of killing millions. Scientists promise safety, but the World Health Organization has for now halted publication of the controversial research, citing fears of bioterrorism

And for more about WHO's stance go to:
WHO: Deadly bird flu studies to stay secret for now
Two studies showing how scientists mutated the H5N1 bird flu virus into a form that could cause a deadly human pandemic will be published only after experts fully assess the risks, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.
.
Speaking after a high-level meeting of flu experts and U.S. security officials in Geneva, a WHO official said an agreement had been reached in principle to keep details of the controversial work secret until deeper risk analyses have been carried out.

So now that these madmen have finished their deed, the WHO and obviously their cohorts have no urgent agenda to disclose their findings. Why?

To have time to assess the risks?

Is it not self evident?
The risk? Pandemic that would kill millions.

Like the 1918 flu that has now been fully sequenced, this is one more weapon in the arsenal of those who cull.

Why is this allowed? I would nuke the containment labs and exterminate this threat before the inevitable "accident" that releases this or one of the other plagues that have been ressurected or created under the guise of "research" with a tale of how this knowledge could save us should a mutant virus infect the world.

Yeah,,,hi fives around,
See you tomorrow. Don't forget to decontaminate on the way out....

What a great addition to the out of control downward spiral leading to our self-destruction.

I know! And we are worried about the vaccinations...
...it might be hysterical if it were not so true.

They decided to keep it a secret so it would not fall into the wrong hands.

This is a euphemism for "no one has met their asking price yet."

Our world is already chock full of man-made pathogens and disease-causing agents - all protected by Patent and Intellectual Property Rights laws for profit. The REAL issue with this research is that the scientists want to share their information openly and freely.

Public health authorities support Open Access to scientific information - the fight against Open Access is led by those with financial interests: Big Pharma and the "security" industry.

What's to figure out?

We could create a virus, that would kill off the entire human species. Nothing new. You decomtaminate too much, all that is going to do is ruin your immune system. The people who use hand sanitizer on a daily, or hourly basis, have no idea what they're doing.

Interesting.. but let's not forget the purpose of science:

Once in Hawaii I was taken to see a Buddhist temple. In the temple a man said, "I am going to tell you something that you will never forget." And then he said, "To every man is given the key to the gates of heaven. The same key opens the gates of hell." And so it is with science. In a way it is a key to the gates of heaven, and the same key opens the gates of hell, and we do not have any instructions as to which is which gate. Shall we throw away the key and never have a way to enter the gates of heaven? Or shall we struggle with the problem of which is the best way to use the key? That is, of course, a very serious question, but I think that we cannot deny the value of the key to the gates of heaven.

All the major problems of the relations between society and science lie in this same area. When the scientist is told that he must be more responsible for his effects on society, it is the applications of science that are referred to. If you work to develop nuclear energy you must realize also that it can be used harmfully. Therefore, you would expect that, in a discussion of this kind by a scientist, this would be the most important topic. But I will not talk about it further. I think that to say these are scientific problems is an exaggeration. They are far more humanitarian problems. The fact that how to work the power is clear, but how to control it is not, is something not so scientific and is not something that the scientist knows so much about.
