I don't know what is more sad... that this guy lies so blatantly about the beautiful Netherlands, or that he can do it so easiliy in the first place and actually get away with it.
Reminds me of Gingrich talking # about european Healthcare and Socialism. Those guys shouldn't get a single vote after spewing their embarrassing nonesense.

Thats okay most of thr USA are retarded due to the leaders and media constantly lying to sell fears as a means to control. There has to be a way around that # a way to say "Hey this is how it really is." in a way that would definately get through to them.

Santorum reminds me of yellow journalism, full of sensational lies and attention grabbing snippets trying to lure the "thinking" public who purchases rags like the Enquirer and such tripe. How unfortunate it is that a majority of the folk he is pandering to has only the lowest levels of education, and dare not think for themselves because it is considered a sin against god to do so. He has spouted off about how we should live, love, and how women are unworthy of the front lines. He has shot his mouth off about more bull crap than both the Bushes together, and somehow, this drooling example of bigoted, Jerry Springer style politics is doing well among the brain dead right. Figures. Let the rabble have their fun. Their ignorance is showing. I cannot apologize for the entire USA because of a stupid moron with a microphone, OP, but I can say this.... He does not under any circumstances reflect the thinking consensus of the United States. Please forgive our village idiot.

Lies are all the Republicans have left. Any sensible analysis of the last 30 years shows failed ideology, failed ideas, failed policy. So they resort to scaring the hell out of the dumb and the vulnerable in order to score votes for their corporate political machine. It's shameless, and Santorum is no different.

Found this article from 2004. Seems this comes from a book.

Doctors in the Netherlands are also renowned for withholding treatment from psychiatric patients and the elderly. It is no secret that the elderly often avoid hospitalization for fear they will be put to death. In response to this trend, thousands of Dutch people carry papers or where bracelets that say “do not euthanize me.”

www.wnd.com...

There may be some truth to it.

How would we know if it was or was not true?

Do they Euthanize old people?

Good question, and a good find as well. After reading this article linked in your post, I would venture to say that this is, more than likely, the source for the story that Santorum has chosen to speak about, which makes your questions quite pertinent. So, is it true or not, that is indeed the question.

OP explained it well enough, people do have a card that states whether they want to be euthanized or not, it's practically the same as an organ donor card, it's to remind doctors that the patient has a declaration of intent concerning euthanasia. It's used in cases where the patient is unable to communicate anymore, if the patient chose not to be euthanized according to his/her declaration of intent his/her family won't even have a choice in it.

It's baffling how unworldly some of the candidates are

This guy really makes me angry. He openly speaks against homosexuality and compares it to awful things and he is still moving ahead. He is clearly lying most of the time and, what's this? States should be allowed to dictate whether or not condoms and birth control can be used? Really? So one man will determine what a woman does to protect her uterus. God, this guy is openly showing he believes women, gays, and foreign people are bad and deserve mistreatment yet he is STILL in the race! People like him are ruining my future! UGH!!!

Santorum tells ridiculous lies about everything. The frightening part is he is a Dominionist and as such literally feels that anything justifies his grab for power in an effort to do his view on "Gods work".

He wont get in the white house though. People enjoy seeing whackos on TV but they are not so stupid as to give nukes to them.

Agreed, Rick Santorum is about as brainwashed as they come, IMHO. As president, he would make America a adhere to a great many things they would rebel against, like prayer in the classroom, no birth control, and a war with Iran for starters. He is a nutcase like Newt. Ron Paul is the only candidate with any sense of purpose, and intelligent way of doing things.

I visited the Netherlands a week ago, travelled around europe in my car. That country has to be one of the cleanest, educated, progressive and underrated nations of Europe and indeed the world. Being Swiss I'm used to high standards of living and the Netherlands is right up there at the top...

Take any statistic concerning crime, living standards, education etc from the USA and compare it to the Netherlands and the Netherlands will win.

The people are very friendly eventhough I didn't speak a word of Dutch, indeed they bother learning another language and to a high standard too! I felt very safe too, they don't need a gazillion CCTV cameras like in the UK to give the people a sense of safety...

That is all

I just stumbled upon a clip of Rick Santorum. It's actually quite unbelievable.

In The Netherlands, people wear a different bracelet. And the bracelet is.. 'Do Not Euthanize Me'. Because involuntary euthanasia (?) .. in The Netherlands... about half the people who are euthanized every year (and it's 10% of all deaths in The Netherlands) .... half of those people are euthanized involuntarily at hospitals.

So elderly people in The Netherlands don't go to the hospital. They go to another country. Because they are afraid, because of budget purposes, that they will not come out of that hospital.

I cannot even begin to describe how false these statements are. Nobody wears such a bracelet. I did a search on the internet and it does not appear to even exist.

Euthanasia is a very delicate subject in my country. It is legal to perform if requested by a terminally ill patient and is required by law to be carried out by 2 doctors. Any doctor may refuse the operation at any time.

If the person is being kept alive by machines in a hospital and not in a consicous state and there is no hope for recovery, it is the family that decides to eventually stop the machines. No one ever gets euthanized because of a doctors decision, as Mr. Santorum is implying.

How people can vote for this man is really beyond me.

A am sitting here with my jaw to the floor.....

This should get posted around some dutch sites it WILL reach the news.

I have lived in the netherlands for over 5 years and spend most of my time there and i can tell you this ...is ....total and utter BeeS

First of all those bracelets he claims are used here do not even exist not even on the internet but i am sure santorum does not know that. He does not even know the implications of what he just said and did if he ever becomes president (god help us if he does). The netherlands might not be a huge country but their influence many times that the size of the country and it always has been,It is one of the more important friend of the u.s in trade (amongst other things).

If anything the healthcare system is a hundred fold better then it is in the U.S.
In the U.S if you dont have insurence you can piss off and drive to another hospital that WILL help you with your impending heart attack. Or this Doctors Refusing To Provide Health Care Services To Parents Who Refuse Vaccines in the u.s

Are there seriously AMERICANS in this thread who thinking they no more about the healthcare system in the NETHERLANDS then someone from the NETHERLANDS. Come on , Guys. I'm american but come on. I'm pretty sure we just trust the guy living there and not the guy running for president of a country thousands of miles away or websites that were probably also made by Americans or people living outside of the Netherlands.

WND.com really now. It is written by a american, one american to be exact. It also had one reader ,santorum
he woman who wrote that part most likely doesnt event know where to point to on the map when asked where the netherlands is ,neither will santorum i can garantee you that.

How can you even think this is true without asking yourself some basic questions ?
Questions like :

Are these bracelets really out there?
If this is true then those bracelets are really out there and if bracelets like these are out there it must be because of a huge awareness of this issue.

Did you ever see bracelets of the sorts of support or to inform or make aware people being produced in a industry and go unnoticed?

How would you know if it was or was not true

Europe would be all over it !
And if not they would be all in on it and be doing it all over europe, There is no middle way there.

Yet another lie spit confidently from the mouth of an idiot. An idiot that has been allowed to pursue a nomination for President, while willing to boldly state fraudulent claims of that which he truly knows nothing about short of the vocabulary. I stand bewildered. I pity ANYONE who has to take guidance from this ignoramus. Hell, I pity the folks that have to dress him in the morning, for I find it hard to believe he can do even that on his own and still appear mentally stable.

What an absolute fool!
This guy is as far right of center as anyone can get!
I can say anyone wouldbe better than this dope.
The religeous freaks that have been multiplying across the U.S. over the years are feeding this insane idiot!!!
Let's not even get into Romney and his laughable belief in the Mormon way.....
Gingrich! That is all I have to say about him.

Wow the Republican party has some real freaks.

This party and it's extreme beliefs will knock the U.S. back 100 years at least.
The world is already polarized about the invisible fence that exisists around the U.S and the "fish bowl" effect. Meaning we all see in, but most of the politicians and the corporate people can't see out.
