You might not want to read this article if you have a weak stomach. Most Americans have absolutely no idea what is going on in the dark corners of America, and when people find out the truth it can come as quite a shock. Many of you will not believe some of the things Americans are doing just to survive. Some families are living in sewers and drain tunnels, some families are living in tents, some families are living in their cars, some families will make ketchup soup for dinner tonight and some families are even eating rats. Some homeless shelters in America are so overloaded that they are actually sending people out to live in the woods. As you read this, there are close to 50 million Americans that are living below the poverty line, and that number rises a little bit more every single day. America was once known as the greatest nation on earth, but now there is decay and economic despair almost everywhere you look.

underlining is mine.

quite true though, this is an absolute shocker and therefor i say this video is a MUST watch.

Those of us that still live comfortably are often completely unaware of what life is like out on the streets of America at this point. There are millions upon millions of Americans that have lost all hope and that are living on the very edge of life and death. And more join the ranks of the hopeless with each passing day. This upcoming weekend approximately 80,000 people in the state of Michigan will lose their unemployment benefits.

the U.S. government is absolutely drowning in debt and cannot afford to be giving out so much money. My point here is to show the other side of the equation. There are millions upon millions of Americans that are barely hanging on and there are no jobs for them. The suffering that those families are going through is very real.

so sad.

and this is certainly very real.

a lot of people nowadays have lost compassion for fellow humans or are too busy struggling themselves to make all ends meet.

Well, the truth is that we should have never allowed tens of thousands of businesses, millions of jobs and trillions of dollars of our national wealth to be shipped out of the country.

i heard this a whole lot on ATS.

USA shipping countless jobs overseas.

and believe me this is not just the US.

it happens everywhere.

For years, a lot of prominent voices out there were screaming and yelling about the dangers posed by our soaring trade deficits and our soaring budget deficits. But the American people did not listen. They just kept sending the same politicians back to Washington D.C. over and over. As a result, soon millions of those same Americans will find themselves doing things that they never dreamed that they would do just to survive.

absolutely shocking.

i can't add much more.

you people just need to watch this.

even if it is hard to watch, this is REALITY.

ETA:

That is a thread on children eating rats. This is a thread on the alarming rate of unemployment and general conditions of the economy.

i did use the search function.

i searched for the name of the video. 'poor america'.

furthermore could you expend a little more on the propaganda part?

it's nice to say something is propaganda, it's even nicer when you can back it up.

ETA:

this hasn't even been posted.

that is a 3 minute clip..

mine is 35 minute documentary.

don't go about debunking something if you didn't even bother to watch it.

America is not set up to deal with mass unemployment, theres not a great deal to do, especialy in an economy. Unless of course your government implemented some extreme World War 2 socialist style work programmes. But thats communism and thats bad.

I don't think it is all due to lack of compassion. There have been too many reports on the news lately about people using this bad time to POSE as homeless, and just rake in the dough for themselves. That is certainly not helping the cause at all.

or it might be that the news is making up these stories to deflect from the dire situations Americans are really in.

i'm not going to deny there are no such people.

i just find hard to believe that the majority of these people are imposters.

this is real people...

Kn0wh0w,
Thank you for this thread, it is a big eye opener for me..I am some what sheltered in my opinion. This is a huge kick in the balls to US citizens and to be honest I had no idea of these happenings until my family began struggeling when my mother was laid off from a 31 yr career and dad couldn't find work. Unfortunately I am part of the middle class they are attempting to wipe out, but I am thankful everyday knowing I still have what I do, but for these people this isn't fair...I know I am not the only one who wants change, but seeing and hearing this makes it hard not to want to scream! The American Dream is dead. It's time to start over and new. Tent city's, sewers, what if we were there and not here chatting on ATS, sad days...

I think you mis-understood what I meant by helping. Everyday people, not the government. You would be surprised how far legit non profits can make five dollars go.

Why do many of these unfortunate people vote for a government administration that finance wars with such an astronomical price tagg that would instead contribute to cure their desperate state of existance?

The economic situation in the USA is at such terrible level and so many families are so very struck by it that I personally I would be very suspicious if the next presidental election would not produce a more (war-) defensive president.

because either side is the same and is pushing the same agenda.

not that hard really.

the government hasn't got the interest of the people at heart.

because corporate big bucks yell a lot louder then any of the children's hungry mouths combined.

that my friend is the current state of affairs.
