Google Search results -- click on link and get blank screen

I have a dumb problem that started a few days ago.

Do a google search on any subject.

Results show OK.

Click on a link and get a blank screen ....

I have an intel i5 processor on a notebook unit (Lenovo)

windows 7 (64 bit)

ie9 is the 32-bit version with no add-ons

other search engines work fine.

tried these commands but no work:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns


Could this have something to do with google's new policies ?

Download Malwarebytes and run it.

also

Ccleaner and or Glarys.

Try googling the answer...

I'm guessing you've emptied the cache and cookies with no change? (ok just saw you use IE9)

Have you got any plugins active? Try disabling them.

First and foremost, try a different browser.

This will help isolate the problem (is it your browser, or something else?)

What browser are you using? You should clear your cache and cookies, and see if that has an effect. Tell me the browser and I can guide you.


** Sorry, I must have skipped over some of your post.

Try clearing your cache and cookies, in IE9 tools/safety/browsing history and delete at least your cache and cookies, if there are other items there you don't mind losing, delete them too.

very funny. Actually I did that and was perplexed when no links worked !!

I searched with bing, but no solutions have worked.

cache and cookies did not help.

ie9

no other browsers installed.

Downgrade to IE8 and see if it works... if it does, than it can be deduced that something is not working on your version of IE9. Reinstall. You've said all other browsers are working fine, so it follows that this is not a "google" issue.

ETA: first step is to do a malware scan...

Ok, I did a quick search and found these steps to try...

Is the page completely blank or a 404?

anyhow, here are the steps to try...

1. Open IE9, click the "Tools" icon (Alt+X) and select Internet options.

2. Under Internet options, open the 'Advanced' tab and tick mark the option named "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering".

3. Click Apply, Ok and restart your Internet Explorer 9.

I suppose if that doesn't work just reverse it.

Well, you could always ping www.google.com and see what IP address responds...

If it isn't a Google IP address you know you've been misdirected.

Google IP range:

64.233.160.0 - 64.233.191.255
66.102.0.0 - 66.102.15.255
66.249.64.0 - 66.249.95.255
72.14.192.0 - 72.14.255.255
74.125.0.0 - 74.125.255.255
209.85.128.0 - 209.85.255.255
216.239.32.0 - 216.239.63.255


Got this info from google, if only you could use it....

open a command prompt, type "ping google.com" and you should get a response from on of these IP ranges.

or you can simply download mozila portable quick and fast and see what happens.

portableapps.com... < Mozilla Portable.

Do a "whatmyip" test and see what you get www.whatsmyip.org


But dont post your ip. just see what you are getting.

To the OP. I'm with another poster in trying a different browser. This issue probably isn't with Google itself. If that doesn't work go the malware route. Start with the simplest solutions first tehn work your way up.

I have had similar issues with earlier versions of IE. If other search engines on IE work...like I'm guessing Bing, try. To uninstall the updates for it. IE 9 is only available with win 7. So go to add remove programs...make sure updates are checked and try to uninstall IE 9 back to..I'm guessing it shipped with 8. If that doesn't,t work try a sfc /scanonce...I think that's the one that runs at startup. Then reboot. You will prolly have to put your win CD in when it starts, but it should repair the file for IE.

If that doesn't work then I'm guessing its something with Google not wanting to play nice with windoze. Or more likely the other way around. And as suggested above..try a virus scan. Microsoft has one you can run for free that updates every 14 days. It is surprisingly effective. Their free stuff is sometimes better than that which you have to buy rom them.

The ultimate solution would be to use something other than IE9.

Internet Explorer is bad, bad, bad. You might want to give the newest version of FireFox or Chrome a try. I would still attempt to repair the IE9 (possibly) issue, but once you start using another browser I think you might see how much more thought went into their development. Later versions of IE are only tolerable because they took ideas from Safari and Firefox.

I agree. Firefox has released the non beta version of Firefox 10 now and it is way better than any version of IE. Or even Aurora. I never use IE for anything other than windows updates.

Before going any further I would try a different browser - this way you can focus your efforts toward the root cause and not waste time trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Seems to be a big issue in IE9 but as usual Microsoft is denying the problem exists, I know it's not much help or consolation but you're not the only one having the problem.

Seem as though we can't fix it, I'd go with the others suggestion and use Firefox 10 (which is what I use and it's great)
