Late Apple co-founder and CEO at one point held a Top Secret government clearance, was targeted for extortion in 1980s. Bob Orr reports then Charlie Rose speaks with the author of Inside Apple, Adam Lashinsky.

That some weird stuff...

I wonder why he would need a top secret security clearance.

It is interesting to see Jobs in a different light than his 'Genius' that everyone portrays his as, although distorting reality is what might have lead him down the innovative path that brought us the products we have today.

I thought this was interesting and decided to share with you all, as the top secret clearance is quite interesting.

Any thoughts?

really? leaves no question in my mind. i bet the CEO's had top secret clearance in WW2 when they built tanks and other stuff for the government.

so this is no shock to me. considering our reliance on tech these days.

Its really not that hard to obtain. My girlfriends father holds some sort of secret level clearance with the government, and he's just inspects nuclear plants.

as if inspecting nuclear plants isn't a job for the classified.. I mean, its only nuclear energy, why would you need a clearance to look inside of one and see how they work?> silly.. your right, anyone can get a top secret clearance,.

/sarcasm

I hope you realize how bizarre your statement sounded aloud.

I'm just saying it's not that hard to obtain. You just need a spotless record and a reason to be in an area.

What your referring to is TS-SCI, it is used for service members and is a compartmental clearance. It's the military's high level blanket clearance that pre-clears service members to perform a giant array of tasks such as COIN ops and supervisory BFT operations. In cases where there is not already a prescreening to SCI a commander can issue a temporary SCI on memo. There are much higher clearances available in the military but most enlisted and officers would not have these clearances as they are for BLDG 1 and higher folks.

Yup, thanks. I think all the old acronyms have changed from what I remember.

I worked at NAVCOMSTA Stockton, and only needed a TS. I was the Verdin tech.

But a couple people had the SBI, to get into the key-change room. Never got to look in there. It was the only place I could not go there.
