I just want to make clear to all the ATS members who
Are from countries other than the USA that this Anti USA
Crap going on inside America is shared by a tiny tiny percentage of
Our population. Thanks to some common sense, and the 2nd amendment,
There's no way any of these american hating loons will
Ever do anything to make any type of 'change' they claim they
Are capable of doing. Normal americans like myself wouldn't let it happen.

To the OP, your post is one of the most levelheaded threads I've seen

I don't like Iran either, but I don't think another heapin' helpin' of war is going to solve any problems. Particularly by a unilateral force which will only ignite tensions and spark a potential global conflict.

ENOUGH.

Oh, yeah. A lot of the commentors are socialists/communists.

One of the commentors could be Ahmadenijad, himself. You just don't know for sure.

What is the change you think they want? I have head nothing but bad things from the MSM and Iran itself. No signs of peace is coming from that nation. They want to spread Islam around the world

There are two sides to this. There is a Theocratic based government, with hardliners. Their are a people who are tired of that. Two sides. The people want freedom. The people want to be heard. Right now, that's not happening. You cannot lump the whole nation, into a religion. Individuals DO exist. Not everyone wants the hardline approach of converting the world into Islam. Those who are claiming "peaceful purposes",while they continue to work in their hidden facility's.Those are the ones the World has to worry about. The Iranian Government.

Yes,all kinds of "enemies" can come here and say what they
want.People like us are basically told to be quiet and speak
what we are told to.
Thinking that does not conform to the general populations' way

Having read random post in this topic. I find most of these people with opinions against or for Iran are ignorant and have no knowledge of warfare or the way it is to be conducted and why it is conducted. Stop talking about brainwashing MSM , that is the most stupidest thing ever. The media is for you to get news on current situations, it is NOT perfect by any means. If you dont like the media , then dont watch them. Most people do not spend two or three hours on the internet and if they do , they are not looking to looking at news around the world and conspiracy theories. Life is hard and busy enough to add more questions and depression. You are the one being unrealistic.

War declaration cause:

There must be a just cause based on an injury received. "Fear with respect to a neighboring power is not a sufficient cause. For...self-defense to be lawful it must be necessary; and it is not necessary unless we are certain, not only regarding the power of our neighbor, but also regarding his intention; the degree of certainty which is required is that which is accepted in morals." Hugo Grotius, The Law of War and Peace, Chap. 22, V, 1. "That the possibility of being attacked confers the right to attack is abhorrent to every principle of equity. Human life exists under such conditions that complete security is never guaranteed to us." Ibid. Bk. II, Chap. 1, XVII.

Conservative site Alef has published a doctrine detailing why the destruction of the nation and the slaughter of all its people would be legally and morally justified. The doctrine, first reported by WND.com, warned that the chance to remove the 'corrupting material' of Israel must not be lost - and that it would only take nine minutes to wipe it out. And it said it was a 'jurisprudential justification' for Iran's Islamic government to then take the helm.

Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk... IxTn5iS

The Iranian government, through a website proxy, has laid out the legal and religious justification for the destruction of Israel and the slaughter of its people. The doctrine includes wiping out Israeli assets and Jewish people worldwide.

On Friday, in a major speech at prayers, Khamenei announced that Iran will support any nation or group that attacks the “cancerous tumor” of Israel. Though his statement was seen by some in the West as fluff, there is substance behind it.

Alef quotes the Shiites’ first imam, Ali, who stated “Waging war against the enemies with whom war is inevitable and there is a strong possibility that in near future they will attack Muslims is a must and the duty of Muslims.” In this regard, Ayatollah Khamenei has issued a fatwa in which he has even authorized carrying out primary jihad in the age of the absence of the Hidden imam under the authorization of Vali Faghih. The article then quotes the Quran (Albaghara 2:191-193): “And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers] … and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah.”

bigwobblenews.blogspot.com...

Khamenei then claimed the current century as the century of Islam and promised that human history is on the verge of a great event and that soon the world will realize the power of Allah.

Many clerics in Iran have stated that Khamenei is the deputy of the last Islamic messiah on earth and that obedience to him is necessary for the final glorification of Islam.

Court Ruling against Iran on 9/11.

The evidence was developed over a seven-year international investigation by
the Havlish attorneys who pursued the 9/11 Commission's recommendation
regarding an apparent link between Iran, Hezbollah, and the 9/11 hijackers,
following the Commission's own eleventh-hour discovery of significant National
Security Agency ("NSA") intercepts: "We believe this topic requires further
investigation by the U.S. government." 9/11 Commission Report, p. 241. The
Havlish evidence included sworn testimony and affidavits from the following:

* Ten expert witnesses including three former 9/11 Commission staff members,
two former CIA case officers, two investigative journalists, and an Iran
analyst who has testified in 25 cases involving Iranian terrorism.
* Three Iranian defectors who were operatives of MOIS and the IRGC. Witness
X, whose dramatic testimony was previously filed under seal, was revealed
to be Abolghasem Mesbahi, a former MOIS operative in charge of Iran's
espionage operations in Western Europe. Judge Daniels found that Mesbahi
has testified in numerous prosecutions of Iranian and Hezbollah
terrorists, including the Mykonos case in Germany and the AMIA case in
Argentina, and found to be highly reliable and credible. Judge Daniels
also credited Mesbahi's testimony that he received messages during the
summer of 2001 from inside the Iranian government that an Iranian
contingency plan for unconventional warfare against the U.S. called "
Shaitan dar Atash " had been activated. "This is compelling proof that
Iran was deeply involved in the 9/11 conspiracy," said Tim Fleming, lead
investigative attorney for the Havlish group.

Included among Judge Daniels' findings in Havlish are the following:

* Members of the 9/11 Commission staff testified that Iran aided the
hijackers by concealing their travel through Iran to access al Qaeda
training camps in Afghanistan. Iranian border inspectors refrained from
stamping the passports of 8 to 10 of the 9/11 hijackers because evidence
of travel through Iran would have prevented the hijackers from obtaining
visas at U.S. embassies abroad or gaining entry into the United States.
The 9/11 Commission Report addressed these facts and called for further
investigation. 9/11 Commission Report at pp. 240-41.
* Expert and U.S. government evidence also confirmed that Iran facilitated
the escape of al Qaeda leaders and members from the U.S. invasion of
Afghanistan into Iran and provided safe haven inside Iran after 9/11.
* Abolghasem Mesbahi testified he was part of an IRGC-MOIS task force that
designed contingency plans for unconventional warfare against the U.S.,
code-named " Shaitan dar Atash " ("Satan in Flames") which included
crashing hijacked passenger airliners into the World Trade Center, the
Pentagon, and the White House. During the weeks before 9/11, Mesbahi
received three coded messages from a source inside Iran's government
indicating that the Shaitan dar Atash plan had been activated.
* Mesbahi also testified that in 2000 Iran used front companies to obtain a
Boeing 757-767-777 flight simulator for training the terrorists. Due to
U.S. trade sanctions, Iran has never had any Boeing 757-767-777 aircraft,
but all the airplanes hijacked on 9/11 were Boeing 757 or 767 aircraft.
* A May 14, 2001 memorandum from inside the Iranian government demonstrating
that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, was aware of the impending
attacks and instructing intelligence operatives to restrict communications
to existing contacts with al Qaeda's Ayman al Zawahiri and Hizballah's
Imad Mughniyah.
* Documents obtained from German federal prosecutors showing that 9/11
coordinator Ramzi Binalshihb traveled to Iran in January 2001 on his way
to Afghanistan to brief Osama bin Laden on the plot's progress.
* Evidence from the 9/11 Commission Report that a "senior Hezbollah
operative," which the Havlish evidence identifies as Hezbollah terrorist
chief Imad Mughniyah, coordinated activities in Saudi Arabia and was
present (or his associate) on flights the hijackers took to and from
Beirut and Iran. 9/11 Commission Report at pp. 240-41. Mughniyah, a
longtime agent of Iran, orchestrated a string of terror operations against
the U.S. and Israel during the 1980s and 1990s. He was assassinated in
Syria in February of 2008.

Read the news from time to time. It helps solidify your arguments.

The false quote uses the word map, not earth.

Did you read the entire article, including the footnote that they added at the bottom of the link you provided?

• This footnote was added on 28 April 2010. The Iranian agency's translation of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's remark was subsequently the subject of dispute. See Guardian Corrections and clarifications column, 23 April 2009.

By the way, did you know that there is no word for map in the Farsi (Iranian) language. The word "nagsheh", which means map, from the Persian language was not used in his direct quote either.

Read the news from time to time. It helps solidify your arguments.

If you believe the MSM and the "news" that comes out of government, then you should be very afraid.

If you have friends who are of Iranian heritage and get your "news" from broad sources and learn to think for yourself, you will find that much of what is pushed as news is really agenda driven.

If you remove yourself from the noise and learn to quiet the mind, you will find we are all one. This planet is a playpen for people to learn about and understand the self--to operate from the perspective of awareness and not from the ego.

Yes, I love Iran. But I love everyone. Compassion. Empathy. They know not what they do.

I also have compassion for those who feel the need to kill what they don't understand. On both sides of whatever coin.

it's a shame that true patriotism in the united states is so dwindled upon the accusations of fellow citizens putting in question their loyalty to the nation because they choose to be cautious with the declaration of war upon sovereign nations in their name.

The American people are asked to sacrifice a great many things for causes that are not in our best interests. How dare any fellow American accuse any of us who advocate peace as being anything less than patriotic and level headed people who think for peace and prosperity, while others think of war and its justification preemptively. Like saying the school yard bully is right because he is just making sure he doesn't get bullied.

It is a serious thing to make war upon this small and fragile world. Our ambitions as a people should not be the dominance of another. The great American is he who defends his nation on the battle field as well as the fight for his mind.

A true patriot breaks the chains of oppression upon his people. He liberates them from all forms of bondage out of love and appreciation. Our goal should be To honor the living for their greatness, not the dead for their sacrifice.

The strain we are asked to live under because of an obsessive compulsion to amass enormous piles of wealth is stagnating us as a people. I will not even argue its distribution. I simply argue its purpose. Even a select few who are well off, what's the point for them if their people are not worthy out of their thirst for power and wealth.? What if your people become a bad people?

The human spirit will always guide the will of a nation. The voice of the people should never be stifled by a fellow supposed "patriot"

My people deserve to live with honor and respect. We work hard to make us more worthy as a people. The argument for prosperity does not suppose the reason for war. War is not war pre-emotively. That is conquest. War is what the enemy of that conquest fights against the conqueror. I don't want that for my people. Who is really the enemy of the people´s spirit?

Give us peace and prosperity and we will produce honorable people. Knowledge and wisdom in good faith placed in a people's minds brings greatness and security for their nation. Let them guide their destiny and they grow as a light to the world.

Tower of Babel gathering the scattered pieces of the human will. United once again by the common endeavor. Let us make a world in peace. Let us be a people who usher in a new golden age of existence. Even our greatest wars will be forgotten. Only what we as a people build together will last the test of time.

Free thought is a beautiful thing.
F R E E D O M for the USA!!!!!

Iran wants Israel wiped off the map. I don't speak Farsi and I don't personally know the people who do the translations. And while I'm quite willing to believe that there are upper echelons of people within the religious leadership who are hostile towards another religion, namely Judaism as espoused by Israel, I know that things can get manipulated in translation.

There is no such thing as a perfect translation and any translator will tell you that a good translation is one that embodies the meaning insofar as possible between two different languages. I'll give you an example of why that might be important: in Portuguese, the literal words "kick the bucket" exist as an expression, but in that language, those words mean "throw a tantrum" not "die". Wipe off is a two word phrasal verb in English. Farsi does not have such structured verbs. Wipe off can also mean clean something from the surface (as in "Wipe that toothpaste off the sink" or "Wipe your shirt off, it's got crumbs on it"). The metaphorical extension that can also be violent is secondary and there is no guarantee that the similar word in Farsi has that same metaphorical extension. A translator on someone's payroll can easily find an "acceptable" translation that fulfills his/her employers' semantic (meaning-related) needs.

Iran leader visits Latin American communist countries I really don't see an issue here. I really don't have any qualms against Evo Morales or Chavez or Castro. Some are more altruistic-seeming then others and I won't beat a dead horse, but there is a thread on how violence never solves problems and how Castro dealt with the oppression of the Cuban masses is a textbook example of what happens when violence is used as a resolution-mechanism. What possible alliance could come from Christian Liberation theology and post-Colonial Agrarian Reform on the one hand and Post-Colonial Religious Fascism on the other?

Iran creates suicide bombers Not sure, but perhaps when some cultural systems are met with odds, different results can occur. So, we see Palestinians at odds with the squalor and destruction they live with and meet that violence with self-sacrificing violence. Also, in WWII, we see Japanese kamikaze pilots. Yet, while not wholly sanctioned or orthodox in the US, there is still a cultural notion of "ultimate sacrifice" in those service members who feel the need to jump on a grenade or bumrush a gun post. And while there may be,culturally, some expectation in the American soldier's mind that he might survive his suicidal gesture, there would be no such naivete inthe mind of a Palestinian suicide bomber or Japanese pilot. Nevertheless, I have not seen it, so I don't know when it comes to Iran.

Iran set to announce new nuclear advancements That is pretty vague. Nuclear does not automatically refer to any set meaning of weapons. And, agian, while I can't speak Farsi, I can clearly see that as I anticipated from my study of Slavic languages, Farsi, which is a distant cousin, also uses the word for "kernel" to mean nuclear (just as nuclear in English comes from Latin for kernel, as in the kernel of an atom). So, again, we're picking the meanings we want to set to these things. And not that I'm really gung-ho about more nuclear power plants, I don't see a cause for concern here.

Iran creates stealth flying boat... Not really sure how this is any more awe-inspiring or fear-generating than the crazy stuff defense contractors have created on my tax dollar "donations".

Iran sends Obama model toy drone ...and we send them nearly invisible drones they don't even know are there piloted by some guy in Nevada.

Iran will not stop nuclear program This really seems, again, to be semantically confusing. Are we talking about a power-generating nuclear program - or the supposed weapons program they are said to be developing?

To me, it seems that this poorly put together administration has done everything in it's power to not go to war with Iran and Iran is not showing any signs of stopping their threats against the west. So why do people on ATS which the government (for now) allows to operate, love Iran so much?

Again, we have pretty much bowed to everything so we are not in WWIII already. Trust me, if a republican like Reagan or Bush was in office we'd be in war right now. I don't understand why you people are complaining about the US sanctions, and we should just leave Iran alone, when they are the ones threatening us!

1. Sanctions are an act of war.
2. We're doing some threatening as is.
3. We got ourselves in this mess by caving into BP (as in British Petroleum) interests, taking out Mossadegh and installing the Shah. The CIA calls this "blow-back", I believe.
4. Do you honestly think, that if we were not even in the Middle East, that there would be any cause for concern for someone in Schenectady, Burlington or Des Moines from someone in Tehran?
