My opinion about this site's purpose

This site has many purposes to many different people.

The denying ignorance part is the give away.

You missed the main point about this site's purpose, which is to generate revenue for it's owners through advertising

I tend to agree there are many camps that seem to be on this site.

I feel we need to lose some of our biases (myself included) to be able to intelligently discuss and absorb new information, not get emotional about our beliefs. This IS the internet.

I think the trend with RP supporters here is simply this is where a good number of alternative thinking people frequent, hence much Paul support. I know American history as it pertains to presidents ending (or attempting to) the Fed and it never has ended well. Not that history can't change if enough people knew the facts and realized the power they wielded as consumers and free thinkers.

I also feel the 2 party system is flawed and useless, and that the U.N. is a disaster and corrupt.

I heard that often from your side of the Atlantic - why is the U.N. a disaster and corrupt, precisely? I don't know of anything about corruption in that organisation and the disaster part - well, "The United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace. " is stated as their target.

This is a work for a group larger than a single country, and with a larger number of members with equal rights you get larger discussions, which will lead to undecisiveness or the way of making very, very small steps. But thats not the failure, this is inevitable and necessary or you would just have an organization lead by large countries defending their interests.

due to the sheer political/war mongering threads and topics ATS has been straying for a while...

i also agree with the soldier worshiping nonsense...the american revolutionists were actually fighting for FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE ..these new cal of duty trained tweens in the battle fields are actually helping in pushing TPTB agenda,

america's freedoms need to be protected NOT from some afgahns thousands of miles away....no...america needs to be protected from the threats WITHIN...

Sorry but hate to inform you.

The real purpose of this site was to get people talking so they can incriminate themselves and have them with there own prosecution.

For example.

How many threads have you seen that start off like.

In the SHTF what is you weapon of choice. This finds out who is in possion of firearms whom are unliscensed.
Then you will see one which says ENough is enough rise up people. This is one which determiones people who have hostile intent or people who may be on the edge.

There are paid people on this board who there sole job is to create cases on people.

Sometimes you need to be aware that your in an open forum and not only is someone watching you and listening to you they know your IP they know you town and they know you .

Usally this can be found out by other means by what people say in therte post.

For instance I made many statments of my military service.

Also I have been to japan. Also live in sothern NH

Now

From that information you can narrow down who I am from a list of 10 people.

Just saying.

I'm in now way of hiding anything.

I am proud of who I am and what i say and stand by it one hundred percent.

Sometimes I may go overboard..But frankly I could give a dam.

Big high 5 bro. You said it as good as it can be said. I've been saying it and will continues saying it that the U.S. troops are enemies of the world. Everyone want to blame the government, but the troops are the ones doing the terrorizing, and killing, and no enemies to us has been killed yet, but millions of innocent people have been.

What about those soldiers who are there purely in support for the extraction of oil just so we can keep on driving our fancy SUVs?

I am sorry, but Libertarian Socialist is an oxymoron. Such a person would be a living breathing example of Orwellian double think at it's finest. The basic precepts of libertarianism are antithetical to the precepts of socialism.

You are generalising and speaking of a few people only. You cannot know everyone's motives for their beliefs.

I read the first few lines and was like wth.. got through to the end and I couldn't agree more with your sentiments.

i will say that ATS is a place for truly open minds that really do deny ignorance, it is a genuine place to get intellectual opinions, biased or unbiased viewpoints, facts, truths and reliable sources. but it is still a forum with different catergories that we must adhere to, so that when we post it is relevant and keeps us on track towards progressive (sometimes aggresive) conversation upon every subject whether it is "above top secret" or not. i guess there have been an increase in "off topic" posts (this must surely be why there is an "off topic" forum) but they still recieve the same scrutiny (and relevant input) of ATS members and mods as any other post, political or top secret. if you are being harassed by trolls then that is their problem, they can't see your side of the argument. just an opinion.

It's purpose is to make sure the truth is never known. I've seen topics in the new list disappear before it even got to the second line.

This site encourages that divisive behavior that the OP mentions, just like mainstream.

90% of the stuff on this site is useless distractions, 5% are intentionally fueled arguments, and 5% is information that leads to the truth, but NEVER the truth itself.
That last 5% is covered with people laughing at the OPs.

The Right generally define freedom, primarily as the hypothetical opportunity for a single individual to own everything on the planet; land, structures, natural resources, you name it. They won't necessarily claim that consciously, but that is usually what it reduces down to.

I define freedom as the capacity of a given organism (including myself) to behave in whatever manner it ordinarily would in its' natural condition, if entirely void of interference from third parties; although my own definition also includes the responsibility to avoid behaviour which is detrimental to the means that an individual relies on for survival.

My definition of freedom does involve the accumulation of a certain amount of physical property, for the maintenance of baseline physical survival, but ideally the amount of property acquired is minimal. I am not against the concept of property ownership in general, but I am opposed to monopolies. I do not believe that survival is best achieved by either exclusive reliance on either individualism or collectivism, but that balance is necessary.

I would encourage reading a book by Confucius on this point, called The Doctrine of the Mean.

That is perfectly fine. If someone is sufficiently desperate for money, and/or devoid of a life, that they seek fulfillment via surveillance of me, then I sincerely hope they find said process gratifying. I will however offer the warning that they will likely be painfully bored, most of the time.

I define Libertarianism in a large part as individualism. How can individualism and personal responsibility ever harmonize with collectivism? They are completely antithetical.
