Weather manipulation is used for "good" or for "bad"; nevertheless, it's still MANIPULATION. What's good about it? I don't know, what if I manipulated someone into becoming a better person? Wasn't it I still manipulating he or she, through simple manipulation ? What right do I have just because I am in my mind and I believe I am aware and awoken, aren't we all in our own minds awoken, even those who are ignorant?

Religion is manipulation. Government the same. It trickles down to media, what we see on TV. And then our personal lives. We manipulate another all the time, it's true.

n.
1. The act or practice of manipulating.
2. The state of being manipulated.
2. Shrewd or devious management, especially for one's own advantage.

www.answers.com...

Nevertheless, who am I to make one a better person? Or show them the way? Ain't ignorance bliss? Ain't bliss darn near paradise? Perhaps leading one to becoming a "better person" or "awoken" was to their demise or depression... Get what I'm saying?

Are you so happy now that you're awake? Personally I'd rather be asleep. Point of this topic: is manipulation okay, even it showing someone the truth? I don't want to hear "WELL IT WASN'T MANIPULATION IF IT'S TRUE".

Is what we call awoken really true? Who knows.

Does that make manipulation, under any circumstances, okay or acceptable?

From an ecological standpoint it is survival of the fittest and therefore justified.

Everything we do is a form of manipulation when you think about it wether we are manipulating our environment, the people around us or our own emotions.

Thanks for your reply. I understand how burning a tree down could manipulate our ecological standpoint. I am more geared towards psychological manipulation; if you believe it to be good, manipulate someone into believing, is it justifiable just beacause you believed it was good?

Well the problem you see is for that manipulation to be good or bad someone would need to manipulate your opinion on it.

It is unavoidable so I find it neither good nor bad in most cases.
Opinion is never a good catalyst for manipulation as we see in things like religion or bad relationships.

But I think the modern age presents new hope because with evidence and science we can manipulate based on reality which is much more justifiable.

Depends on the situation. Sometimes if you're too good at it you may find yourself in a position of being forced to use your "gift" (or curse) on people you don't want to against your will. I'll take the stand for negative, I suppose.

Most, if not all, 'bad' manipulation is hidden, by nature...otherwise, it is accepted by the manipulated party to some degree...
With regard to...'good' manipulation...a distinction should be made between...manipulation of thought, and manipulation of action.

If you slap a childs hand away from a power outlet, you are manipulating its actions by introducing your own...but, i doubt whether this would be argued against...

If you tell a child that if it does not pray to Jesus every night, that it will go to hell...you are manipulating its thoughts...totally arguable...

Every unit has the ability to, at some level, make up its own mind...when that mind is being made up for it, this is bad manipulation.

Thanks for your post.. I'd agree it's always negative no matter the intent. Intent is only an illusion of what one thinks they should be doing.

Would you agree slapping the child's hand away was a form of manipulation? Wouldn't he or she have learned without you? And yes, to put it easy: RELIGION IS MANIPULATION

Yes...I did say it was a 'form' of manipulation...and if you are willing to watch your child or another fry by electrocution, then in this case (specifically) it is your NON-ACTION which has caused the childs death...IMHO...and manipulation or no manipulation, the consequences of action or inaction reap the results commensurate with either...

I would agree, the outward clothing of religion is mottled to say the least...however, the messages are not manipulation, so much as 'hand slapping away from power outlets', or the discussion of same.
