In the last few months, I have been contacted by the NRA via phone no less than three times. The conversation always goes like this:
"Hello?"
"This is _____ with the NRA. may I speak with _____?"
"Speaking."
"Are you aware that [insert end of world scenario here]
is being debated in Congress?"
"No, I was not. Can you give me a link to the text of the bill?"
"Oh... I will have to look that up, sir... but..."
"I'll hold."
"Oh... OK."
[on hold for a few minutes]
"Here is the site sir: [NRA web page]
"
"Hmmm... OK... one moment while I read it."
[I read the page]
"It doesn't give me any info on the bill. It just says what you just said. Can you at least give me the bill number?"
"Oh... I don't have that information..."
"Can you email it to me when you get it?"
"Certainly sir! While I am looking that up for you, would you like to prevent [end of world scenario]
with a donation to the NRA?"
Needless to say, I now place little faith in what anyone connected with the NRA says. I am still waiting on those emails... the only ones i got were
simply more of the same, begging for donations while making outlandish and unsubstantiated accusations.
I have no doubt Obama would be tickled pink to outlaw guns in America, but not because the NRA said so.
