When you are struggling to survive it is no different then if you are fighting a war. It is all about tactics. I would suggest anyone interested in survival to read Sun Tzu : The Art of War

A few excerpts will show you that it has to do with more then just combat.

"All warfare is based on deception."
"Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him."
"Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected."
"...Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence
consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting."
" Therefore the skillful leader subdues the enemy’s troops without any fighting; he captures their
cities without laying siege to them; he overthrows their kingdom without lengthy operations in the
field. With his forces intact he will dispute the mastery of the Empire, and thus, without losing a man, his
triumph will be complete. This is the method of attacking by stratagem?"

It really is a good read and required for all military officers of the USA to read during OCS training.

/mods one of my first threads so please move if needed.

"The Art of War, Trout Fishing Made Easy"

I like where you are going with this though.

Sun Tsu was a brilliant psychologist - and I would say without using percentages, that a huge amount of survival = mental conditioning.

Exactly! The entire book is about strategy. These strategies are useful in any situation. Know yourself, know your terrain, know your opponents, etc. They are helpful in many more ways then just combat situations. I have read it a few times, and understood it differently every time I read it.

the most important thing that is forgot during wars is...
Patience
if that was brainwashed during ww1
then many brits would not have died in vain
(and decent pumping for the trenches lol)
