If would be the symbol for the Nazi SS if it was on a Nazi. It's not.
It's a symbol, nothing more. Though it is associated with the Nazi SS because that's where it was most prevalent, it is still JUST a symbol. If a 5 year old child drew it in school, it wouldn't be a Nazi SS symbol. It would be a 5 year old childs' drawing. It would become a Nazi SS symbol when someone went "OH MY GOD, THAT 5 YEAR OLD IS A NAZI!!!"

No that would mean that this 5 year old kid drew the Nazi SS symbol. Not that the Kid is a Nazi.

Still a NAZI Symbol.

And by the way what makes you think that those guys on the pic are not Nazis? Because they're not German?

ETA: And I'm pretty sure it's forbidden by law

Of course you don't care. How could you? You're a lesser human being with a smaller conscience than us who do care. Hitler should have taken YOU out, the ignorant of the world, so that only people who USE their brains would be left. That would've been no tragedy for me, maybe we could then attempt to fix the world without being hindered by morons, who are a more difficult obstacle in this war for freedom than the enemy themselves. I'm anti-religion, so I don't care on a personal level, I'm not PERSONALLY offended, but on a moral level this is clearly not an accident. And if you believe it is, then you again fall into the category of stupid people I just described who are quite frankly not fit to live.

Any forms of fascism/discrimination/abuse of power/indications of intention to abuse power in anyone's government or military is UNAC-##snip##-CEPTABLE. This sort of crap is the beginning of a short, down-hill road to your worst nightmare my friend. And it should be treated as seriously.

Certain people in this thread sure seem to be obsessed with "Nazi" symbolism.

Makes me wonder.

No. It's NOT a Nazi symbol at the time a child draws it. It's called a SYMBOL for a reason. If a 5 year old child doesn't know what it is and just draws it because he/she thinks it looks cool, it's NOT a Nazi symbol at that time. It's JUST a drawing.

You see, symbolism is something that is assigned to and object or shape to say that the something it is assigned to stands for something. Once symbolism is assigned to a shape or object, THEN that object becomes a "symbol".

UNTIL someone associates the shape/object/whatever to meaning something, it is JUST a shape/object/whatever.

Like other people said regarding the Swastika.

It's WIDELY known to be a SYMBOL for Nazism but the Swastika originated LONG before the Nazis as a symbol. When those people who existed LONG before the Nazis first drew it, it wasn't immediately a Nazi symbol just because it's widely regarded as one now, because no-one was around to associate it with Nazism that far back.

The same goes for the SS symbol nowadays. It's just a shape and anyone can say what it stands for, but then someone will come along and associate the Nazism stigma to it, and since Nazism is more widely known than whatever the ORIGINATOR of the shape had said it stood for, it's now considered a Nazi symbol.

Cheers

So your negative personal experience gives you the right to make wild insinuations regarding the ideology of men you know nothing about just because they took a picture with the scout sniper logo?

It is the Nazi SS logo and nothing less. That is a fact.
I don't care if you feel better thinking otherwise.

No, that's not a fact. It's a Nazi SS symbol TO YOU because you are assigning that symbolism to it. THAT is a fact.
However, it is NOT a Nazi SS symbol simply for what it is, which is a shape, and nothing more.

Cheers.

Yeah, Hellas, stop generalising, for crying out loud it is just a cool looking flag, I would stick it up and not feel the urge to ethnically cleanse people.

Perhaps there are bigger issues?

I think the whole point is people saying that the subject is inappropriate for humour or otherwise.

Numerous people have already posted pics of the Scout Sniper insignia showing the lightning bolt SS. It's nothing new, but people are getting their panties all twisted up over it like it is.

Which makes it even more moronic. But it's still the symbol of the Nazi SS

It would be the symbol for the Nazi SS if it was on a Nazi. It's not.

It would become a Nazi SS symbol when someone went "OH MY GOD, THAT 5 YEAR OLD IS A NAZI!!!"

...Hence, it's just a symbol they're using in the scout sniper units. It becomes more when people get all up in arms and assign these Nazi stigmas to it, and ONLY when they assign those stigmas to it.

Cheers

I'm sorry mate but the reasoning that underlies your argument is just absurd.

People associate symbols - regardless of what intent or purpose they are used for - with the underlying things that give the symbol its connotation, even if its denotation may not be inherently related to what it has come to represent.

The Sig runes are just some element lifted out of nordic culture - no harm there; but as some of us (I wish I could say all) know, the double-sig has been made infamous by association with the Schutzstaffel.

No. My reasoning is perfectly sound. The double-sig is just a shape and nothing more.
It's only associated with the Schutzstaffel because people give it that association.
I will admit that the double-sig has been made infamous by the Schutzstaffel, but if the double-sig is used in a different way, meant to symbolize something else, then it is the fault of the beholder to associate it with Nazism, not the fault of the user of the symbol.
