Earth is getting 50,000 tonnes lighter every year, even while 40,000 tonnes of space dust fall onto our planet’s surface during the same period. So, why are we losing so much weight? You will be surprised.

Did you know the Earth is getting lighter each year?

Amazing, isn't it?
Is it on a diet?
What do you think?

And while Earth is getting lighter and lighter, more and more people become more and more overweight, so in the end i think it's balanced again

I already posted what a friend of mine thinks about this subject:

Oxygen is not from nature, plants just use it and recycles it by generating it. In his idea Water vaporises, the vapour rises to great hight where it becomes ionised. Most of the ions recombine. Some do not. Due to the low gravity at that altitude some of the Hydrogen escapes in our Solar system. Thus out of reach. This leaves the Oxygen behind witch travels back to Earth.

.
It was in this thread from 18 Dec last year.

Nice to see science just gave my friends opinion some credit.

An interesting thread and certainly one I had not even imagined. If only my *#@ was getting lighter
I love this remark in the reference article:

Oh, those crazy thermodynamics.

Nice find

I dont know about our planet but I happen to think that we should be weighing less as our Magnetosphere degrades.

cant prove it, dont know enough to talk anymore about it, but its my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

According to Einstein, "Every second, the Earth is struck by four and half pounds of sunlight."

So for now, just to make the equation easier and for sake of argument, we'll skip what may or may not be reflected or deflected off of us.

So 4.5lbs * 60seconds * 60minutes * 24hours = 388,800lbs/Day or /2000 = 194.4 Tons/Day * 365Days = 70,956 Tons/Year.

That's almost 71,000 tons a year, minus 50,000 tons a year lost equals 21,000 tons a year gained in difference.

Yep...world still expanding.
