well, id say these co-ops have a place for sure. Hell, there is a place for everyone to prosper, no matter what you identify with--its writen in the Constitution. Its the FEDERAL TOP DOWN govt that gets in the way there....

Local govt first, be it social or --what ever...WE DECIDE. but no Govt to rule with an iron fist would be nice. And im not talking industrial revolution Capitalism--no need to go backwards.

Im ready for responsibility, now. Im ready to earn my way in life, and distribute the surplus as I see fit.

you and me both my friend. we may look at things from a different perspective but we agree at heart regardless of the terminology we use. i was simply trying to demonstrate that. glad we were able to come to that realization.

SO--Is there still a reason to continue? These firms exist along side traditional companies, yes?

To each his own? Or do they ALL need to be standardized into the better form of worker owned means of production model?

i am of the personal opinion that if barriers to entry are evened out for worker coops and if the people learn more about them they will, over time, become the most common form of business and that this would be a good thing, but i am opposed to any form of authority saying that all businesses need to be converted to this model.

Pure socialism is socialism without a state. Libertarian socialism/anarcho-socialism. Noam Chomsky is a libertarian socialist.

That whole "being a human" thing does cause many precepts supported by logic to fail into the negative numbers (destructive). We are not logical machines. We love and hate.

I'm late coming to this thread. I have read political philosophies for years. As a Libertarian, I believe in a true 'free market"...not cronyism...but a system where the person can buy, sell and trade freely with his peers without government regulation or theft. Just my opinion though.

The Nordic examples of Socialism seem pretty successful (Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway). But they have very small populations. It seems to work for them but I can see problems when this system is applied to large populations.

I think a fear about socialism is rooted in the idea that there is no wealth. This is actually not true. The Nordic examples listed above actually have the highest percentage of millionaires and billionaires per capita of any countries in the world...yes, including the USA.

So though I do not see Socialism as a viable option for the USA, I do not see where the countries that have successfully implemented it are suffering. In fact, some studies say the Nordic people are actually the happiest and healthiest people on the planet. If it works for them...great for them...but I do not think it could work here for a few reasons.

Although I would not call it socialism. The John Lewis company in the uk, runs a scheme where all the workers receive an equal % of the profits. The workers are considered owners of the company. This company has made record profits this year, 60% up. Compared to its competitors which are struggling. It's clearly a successful business model. It's important for people t feel like they are part of something and their efforts rewarded. That their is a value to their labour and incentive to make profits for the company.

I am a bit confused. The examples of success stories are not success stories. None of them lasted for long. Will someone please share a link or two of current success situations that I may have overlooked? Thank you in advance.

Socialism for the corporations. Tax exemptions for megacorps. Bailouts. QE1,2,3. Corporations paying negative taxes. Goldman sachs is the treasury deptment and can regulate itself.


Corporations like monsanto poisoning people with GMO and pesticides and getting away with it.

At one time the supervisor, was the guy that digs a ditch.

As I have said many times "they pay me for what I know, not what I do."

When I was a die cutter I started out at the bottom, I didn't know anything at all
. After 15 years I now have companies offering me $30/hour or as one company put it "we will pay you what you want" because I'm one of the best.

The best part is I am now in private security making less then half of what I was making, but I like what I do now and hope to never go back to die cutting. And there is no way in hell I would work as a die cutter and get paid like a "ditch digger"!

You make more money if you freelance. Its just the way it is now. Working under the corporate umbrella is less enticing.
