Strange bug bites leave Lincolnites scratching for answers

Something's bugging Lincoln.

And nobody knows what.

Calls describing mysterious, itchy, red skin welts began trickling into the Lincoln-Lancaster CountyHealth Department, extension service and doctors' offices early last week.

By Friday, it was a stream of calls.

The funny thing: Nobody has seen the culprits, the bites don't fit any known pattern, and this has never happened here before.

Might it be bugs of mass destruction?

It's probably some other kind of mite, gone wild as a result of the summer's strange weather patterns, said Scott Holmes of the Health Department
