Earthquake Rumbles Just Moments After Okla. 'Shake Out'

www.koco.com

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 3.1-magnitude earthquake shook central Oklahoma on Tuesday morning, just 15 minutes after an event meant to help Oklahomans and residents across the United States be prepared in the event of a big temblor.

The quake was centered 6 miles south of Paden, 7 miles southwest of Boley, 7 miles northwest of Cromwell and 55 miles east of Oklahoma City.

More from the story-

The Great Central U.S. Shake Out had just happened at 10:15 a.m. across the central United States. According to its website, the "ShakeOut is an opportunity to practice how to protect yourself during earthquakes, and to get prepared, along with your family, community, co-workers, state and region."

What are the chances a quake happens 15 minutes after a drill?

Million to one?

(all HAARP specualtion will be considered as well)

Oklahoma got over 1000 earthquakes in 2010 - 103 large enough to be felt.

That's 1 felt every 3.5 days on average.

The simple chances of getting 1 such earthquake within 15 minutes of any given event are 1 in 3.5 * 24 * 4 - or about 1 in 340.

So no, not a million to 1.

edit on 7-2-2012 by Aloysius the Gaul because: the 103 quakes was 2010, not 2011

Oklahoma had 90 quakes in the last 6 months...

folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu...

That works out to be about 1 quake every 2 days.

True Chad, but as another poster pointed out...How often do they have big quake drills?

And then, how often does a decent sized tremor happen right after the drill?

I'm not sure if HAARP is behind this since they actually warned us. HAARP has no doubtably been behind some "natural" disasters in the past but this time I have to say that it was just a natural disaster that was forseen and we were warned. Just my opinion

I feel the same way, and because we share that thought, I like you, and you can stay too...

Now, what about the OP, what are the chances this is coincidence?

Be difficult to feel a 3.1 quake.

Anything under 4 is insignificant, especially 55 miles away from the epicenter

Wow
didnt know Oklahoma area gets a quake every 3 days on average

That puts it all in pure coincidental perspective

3.1's are childs play. I sleep through anything less than a 4 and I'm a light sleeper! Pretty crazy that it happened right after the drill though, I'm open to suggestions.

Have you looked into the HAARP conspiracies? They show up a week or 2 before a disaster happens and if they are just observing then why dont they warn us? HAARP has deffinatly been behind more than a few disasters if you ask me.

I did - the odds of having an earthquake within 15 minutes of ANY GIVEN EVENT are about 1:340.

If Chadwickus' figures are correct at 1 every 2 days then it comes down to about 1 in 200.
