Remember, what would be the equivalent of "grade 2 or 3" in England is the same as a PhD in Canada. All they teach in Canada is cheeky crap and nonsense. And the qualifications from Canada such as to be a lawyer might as well be sent in exchange for half a dozen cornflakes packet tops. The average Canadian is an uneducated, ignorant, inbred slob, barely able to tell day from night.

And now we are done with any further discussion.

Congratulations, you've just shown you're true colours and your lack of academia is screaming loud and clear.
Go back to Britain, apparently you're still in need of that "higher" education.
Done.

Thanks to Ken Lewenza, the President of the Canadian Auto-Workers, over 460 families are thrown out onto the scrapheap.
His trade union's obstinacy has forced Caterpiller to shut down a manufacturing plant in Canada, throwing 460 workers out onto the street without a job.

Despite being so lazy, that they wouold not turn up to work, and having forced the closure of the only big job-providing factory in the region, their employer, Caterpiller has offered them dough.
DESPITE THIS, these lazy, greedy selfish scum have actually REFUSED the money and are now threatening to seize the plant.
It really, really is high time to crack down on this excrement at the bottom of the human barrel.
The Canadian Army should be immediately brought in and blow the heads off any of the lazy, greedy, theiving #s who try to get over the fence.

Hey OP

Hope you dont mind me telling you, but I work in a comfy government job here in Canberra Australia and I just checked my hourly NETT pay: $48.75 per hour.

All I do is sit on my butt all day in an air-conditioned office doing a little 'work' while playing on the internet.

Have a nice day, champ.

The answer would be to hit Caterpillar with a huge tax for an idle industrial plant. Force Cat to sell the plant to some company, or group of workers who would re-open the plant and start producing once again.

Cat shouldn't get by with leaving a huge mess behind. If they close the plant, they shouldn't be able to just leave it idle going to waste. Tear it down and clean up any toxic waste left behind, or find a group to restart the plants operations.

You do realize that Caterpillar is right up there with Halliburton/KBR on the list of fairly freakin' evil corporations eh? I don't care how supposedly fat or lazy their employees are at the floor level, if they are picking a fight with Cat, I'm on the side of the employee, not the employer. To hell with Caterpillar and the horse they rode in on. Also, if I may add, I noticed a bit of bias on your end. You wouldn't happen to be part of management would you? Or maybe just someone who wishes they had that job.

I am very sorry for you ballisticmousse, what ever happened to you I hope you find resolution and peace.
After reading your very hostile post I considered reporting it to the NSA, as It would appear you may be a danger to yourself and others in your community. Maybe everyone reading this post could send ballisticmousse some tranquil loving thoughts.
As I post in every union bashing thread some quotes from famous and influential people. Please read them ballisticmousse after we can agree to disagree. I do not work in a union but more than ever are needed in our society.
Wishing you all the best now and in the future. I feel your pain friend.
peace ,
brice

"With all their faults, trade unions have done more for humanity than any other organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race, for the developing of character in man, than any other association of men."
Clarence Darrow

"All that serves labor serves the nation. All that harms is treason. If a man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool. There is no America without labor, and to fleece the one is to rob the other."
Abraham Lincoln

"If capitalism is fair then unionism must be. If men have a right to capitalize their ideas and the resources of their country, then that implies the right of men to capitalize their labor."
Frank Lloyd Wright

"The labor movement means just this: It is the last noble protest of the American people against the power of incorporated wealth."
Wendell Phillips

"The American labor movement has consistently demonstrated its devotion to the public interest. It is, and has been, good for all America. Those who would destroy or further limit the rights of organized labor--those who cripple collective bargaining or prevent organization of the unorganized--do a disservice to the cause of democracy."
John F. Kennedy

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."
Abraham Lincoln

My friends, it is solidarity of labor we want. We do not want to find fault with each other, but to solidify our forces and say to each other: "We must be together; our masters are joined together and we must do the same thing."

The company boasted record profits last year and their

first and only offer was over a 50% pay cut.

Yeah, just ignore that little fact there and blame it on the workers.
No, blame corporate greed.

Just let Catepillar lay down and rape their workers so they can make even higher profits.

Is ATS lowering its bar? This thread has been a representation of the dichotomy between humans. Potentiality is part of the dichotomy. The potential in the dichotomy is what is easily shown here as we see how explosive things can get as the potentiality already in motion will continue to become more and more interesting. Making an overgeneralized statement about Canadians in such a snide way is ignorant. Suggesting that the workers take a 50% pay cut along with no pension and a reduction in health benefits is pretty harsh if your attitude is that every Canadian employee is fat, dumb and lazy and, well, they friggin deserve it for being so useless. We are then treated to the celebration of the upper tier continuing to toast themselves over their continued success in hoarding more money for themselves and their investors despite the shift in jobs. All this coming from a Brit calling Canada home. Anyone calling unemployment insurance welfare comes across as smug, not a nice quality, especially if your cowardly way of doing it is to berate people on an open forum. The people who would have settled for half pay plus additional losses would have been in deep doo-doo regardless of the outcome. Losing half your income could easily bankrupt many families. Is the OP's discontent suppose to tell us he's a player? Telling us that being middle class is for suckers? That's the dichotomy here, the OP thinks THEY should have have to their incomes cut in half because they deserve it. The OP is out in la la land as far as I'm concerned. You wanna be brave Mr UK then why don't you put your face on video to share your blatant contempt for the people that surround you? Me, I'd like to make as many friends along life's path that I possibly can. Understanding cause and effect relationships is something some people don't get. I wish you luck as we move forward in time. You are definitely gonna need it. Your life too could change at any moment for the not so good. Your pompous attitude is offensive. Is your thought that you will continue to be protected by the economy which you blindly support with contempt for all the suckers taking away from your attempt at success? That may be the least of your problems as the financial scandal known as the derivatives markets takes a beating from Greece crashing financially into oblivion. The top five banks in the US are on the hook for the implosion. You may see your contempt as misplaced sooner than you think. Now that you've told the world you don't have insurance you have further revealed more about yourself than necessary. Maybe nothing about you is legit and your a criminal. Maybe your a troll from God knows what place to stir up emotions with your threatening words. I don't understand why ATS would have let this go on after the bad words. However I see the challenger left the field early after picking a fight and maybe ATS was responsible? If that is true, thanks. The hardest thing to do is not not stoop to someone's level. I would think if the rude guy from the UK tried to talk that BS in a Canadian public place he'd find instant trouble. I wouldn't be so sure that things won't creep higher into the upper tier of the hierarchy than many of those who, "think they are all set", realize. I'd definitely try to be more understanding. Canadians are not all fat, dumb and lazy. Unless of course you are perfect. If you are perfect then definitely everyone else would have some flaws. Perhaps a picture from the perfect one would enlighten us, or possibly humble us into understanding how we are all missing the big picture on what you are trying to communicate to us. I think everyone would agree that would be more helpful in understanding your point here.

Its too easy

The tried and true way for governments to protect workers is to throw up import duties on imports. Caterpillar would be very concerned if they had to add 20% onto the prices of their equipment crossing the border. Marketing is the weakest link in any industry.

Of course that would only work if Mulroney hadn't already given Canadian sovereignty away to his pals in the USA already...

I agree on insurance, it's a scam.
You pay for nothing, and it's mandatory, what the hell?
I caught on the moment I had to choose a company for my car.
Legal robbery is what that is.

I agree with the education system, it's a scam.
The certification situation is ridiculous, if any training is needed it should
be provided by the industry that hires, granted that the worker intends to work there
long enough for the training to become an asset rather than a liability.
Certification really is destroying jobs, all in the name of safety,
in reality education has become a god damned business.
Most things that deal with manual labour should be included in high-school curriculum.
Being in University at the moment, I must admit, what we learn is useless garbage,
and I'm in business management of all things...
I want to start a business, yet I learn nothing towards that goal.
Instead they teach people how to be obedient workers, and left winging environmental liberals,
not to mention the PC crap they mix in with the whole bunch of nothingness,
oh, and globalization is a good thing, go neo-liberalism, ship those jobs off to China and India,
wooo hooo!

Of course, our bureaucratic system has grown to gigantic proportions,
and there is a reason for that, there are no jobs available, so they create
new ones, useless as they are.

Btw, socialism can work, if not ran by left winging liberals.
Socialism in terms of free healthcare and free education,
but that is IT. It only makes sense to hire trained workers,
and not having to pay them health insurance coverage.

Accidents at work happen, death is a part of life,
does this REALLY mandate certification for every damn possible
job in existence? Maybe we should give people mandatory courses
prior to testing them? You know, cause of road safety.
Oh, wait, that's already the case in Quebec...
All in the name of safety, they're strangling us with this garbage.

This is what happens when liberals run everything.
No jobs, no money, inflation, depression, anger, etc.
Don't even get me started about the sexual perversions.
Liberalism, Neo-Liberalism, baaah, away with all of these.

What we need is tariffs on imports and heavy investment
in industry here at home, we need more Canadian based businesses.
Not Austerity measures, screw the banks, they're a scam,
just like the overbureaucratized system we live in.
