I just came across this by accident.

Alarmed by the “Arab Spring”—the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt that last year ushered in a new period of class struggle internationally—Australia’s six civilian and military intelligence agencies are preparing for unpredictable political upheavals, abroad and at home

They have been bolstering the Howard Governments terrorism laws too --

These laws define terrorism in such sweeping terms that it can cover many forms of political dissent and protest. They expand the surveillance and computer-hacking powers of the security forces, provide for semi-secret trials and erode fundamental legal principles, such as habeas corpus (no detention without trial), the right to silence and the presumption of innocence.

These terrorism laws are getting a bit much. When you have to worry about what you write on twitter its gone too far. I think when they say upheaval I think they mean when the economy emplodes around the globe.

This Government fear is telling and concerns not just Australians. I think the capitalist governments know the end is near. Its been smoke and mirrors for a long time now. When all of us 'advanced consumers' actually have to face real hardship there will be many that take aim at the government. We should be worried that they are worried. And if Australia is worried everyone should worry because right now Australia is considered a rare 'safe haven' in a shaky global economy.

This is very much an Australian phenomenon. There are a number of Lebanese descendant communities in Europe and the US - significantly larger than in Australia. This alarming trend is aparent in many once free democracies of the west.
Canada, The US, Britain,and many others passing these draconian no knock laws that make virtual gulags of once free states.
The writing is on the wall now, if youve missed it in the past.
the goverments are taking over to micro manage our very eexistance with the technology that was supposed to set us free!

With Australia's multicultural mix it is standard for international conflicts to be reflected here. Take the Serbia and Croatia football riots when they where at war as one example. Now with this long and protracted WW3 gearing up for the next stage it is just going to get hotter. With the West making the march through the Middle East, either the East will finally stand up or the corruption in the West will be exposed and fall.

My Dad says this all the time. He doesnt believe War is coming and he call's me Hanrehan(from the poem). But yeah,we must be the most multicultural place on the earth. I think we will see riots too.

So much traffic on the internet, things that people never knew before and did not hurt them came and went. I hope this too is something like that but I just doubt it, I tend to agree that the sweeps are only just begining and it is not terrorism that they want to squash, it is the ordinary free-willed thinkers.
