its very sad to have people die in such weather, i think there was some oversight on the part of the authorities or on the victims themselves..it is a case of fate either way . RIP ..

Texas is super warm in comparison to any other winter I've endured here. Something is truly amiss here.

I'm still trying to find the meaning or point of sadness in statistical numbers of dead.

Across several nations and a period of time X number of people perished to Y cause.

How should the pity and sorrow be delegated?

In the US over 2500 die everyday due to heart disease. That number, time frame and single nation added to the fact that heart disease like hypothermia is preventable makes it sad? More or less sad than 300 hypothermics? Equally sad?

After all this time I still don't have the "pity" thing down. Which is sadder? More useful for manipulating public opinion and funding?

Is there a tragedy scale of some sort? Sorrow level orange, green, red?

I know this all sounds terribly callous but for the sake of understanding a great segment of all media, information, politics and mob mentality effecting democracy I think this is extremely important.

So if a loved one died of cold weather exposure, you wouldn't understand the point of sadness?

We are all part of one, imo. To loose one of 7 billion is to reduce pollution, carbon footprint etc yeah but is also to loose part of us all no matter who each and every is randomly, they are significant.

And... the more human lives lost to anything, the more sadness.

No?

(I do suppose if humans are seen as a disease upon earth - or terrorists - the lower the death toll statistics, the more the sadness??)

I wonder if this is all to do with the Gulf Stream slowing down and cooling?
About 6 years ago 30,000 people died in europe from heat waves,
mainly in France I think.

My winter has been pleasant to be fair. So sad to hear about the deaths, most probably older people who have to choose whether to eat or put the heating on

All i can say when my winter has been so...mild, is hahaha British Gas..ha.hafkin. HAAA!!

I think we should all pray Russia doesn't turn the gas off.
Britain is after all, right at the end of that pipe.

It's sad that so many people, mostly homeless have been left to perish but this has come to a shock to many places that usually don't see any snow at all.

I am in the western Ukrainian city of L'viv, the temperature here today is pretty nice at -13 C. Few days back I remember it being -28 C and we had to go to the university early in the morning, impossible to stay outdoors for more than 5 mins even with 4 layers of heavy clothing face covered with mufflers and a cap and hood on Oh and the roads are filled with snow!
