We all know the US will undermine the regime in the end, it's an ideal opportunity for a operation similar to the one in 2001 where green berets trained and supported the Northern Alliance, and more recently undermining Col. Gadaffi's regime in Libya. It will happen mark my words.

That is true, that US NATO have the capability to go ahead and do the Serbia or Libya again. However, the equation is little different at this time. Russia is not as weak and drunk as it was in 1999 when Serbia was attacked. Russia and China are much more involved with Syria than they were with Libya. Syria does hold strategic importance for Russia a lot. Thus if West goes ahead with attack, then Russians and Chinese will start arming notoriously, the Assad regime and army. Remember, vrs Libyans, half of Gaddhafi's army defected easily and many fought a little and surrendered quickly. That was because they were against the world. If Russia and China had backed G, then his army would have stuck around and fought real hard, because they had some real power to fall back to and get more arms and support.

So end of it all, West would be wise enough to not mess around with Syria. Do not know how much would Russians support Iran but it would make a good strategic sense for them to do so. Iran is a big country and holds a lot of strategic importance.

The resolution was to condem the use of Violence against civian protesting,
for those that belive it was mossad or the CIA are behind the protest
are vastly overestimating their cappacity to incite crowds.
They might however be a good avenue for gettingfootage shot out.
their are now snipers given orders to shoot at anyone with acamera now.
Syrian government know that they are loosing the PR war.
Condeming violence like this shoudn't be up to a few member states to veto
, it should be voted on at the general assembily and a majority statement produced.

how quickly and shamefully you guys race to change the existing rules once things do not go exactly the way you want them to.

What's next? declaring Security Council useless?

I agree its overdue the UN apparatus was changed. Majority should rule just like any open free rrepresentative democratic referendum. Its amazing to watch how primitive these leaders still act in their inaffective veto bull since the creation of UN. Their are rumours now that China was bribed by Iran. www.wnd.com...

Why not start attacking countries without the UN vote? Guess Might is Right as in case of Serbia and Iraq 2003.

West would be wise enough on Syria!

... and you forgot to mention the illegal arms deals and the bombing of China's Embassy...

... the Russians lost a good chance to get some protagonism in by having a larger role in that situation.

Now backed by Tunisia, the west is trying to declare Assad government as illegitimate and thus provoke a total civil war in that country. I am sure many more puppets and prostitutes will follow the smell of backroom handouts.

if war breaks out , chances are most of the arab and western populace would be decimated in a matter of days by the russian federation. But the elites fail to understand that.Or is it that they want ww3 so that they can cull the useless eaters and are baiting Russia to start up crap.

Israel is more than likely going to act (on Iran). NATO will most likely defend Israel (hopefully).

That is America's get out of jail free card , if possible. Israel attacks - America helps as we said we would.

incorrect....by a long shot.

That only way America will get a "get out of jail free" card as you say is by telling the Zionist regime that they will support an attack on Iran.

Zion attacks Iran, Iran and the Arab World retaliate and annhialate Israel.

2 Birds with one stone.

Europe/Russia/USA/China and pretty much the rest of the world continues to go on, divide the spoils of the completely battered Mideast without having to launch their own war/troops into the Glass covered deserts!

USA needs to release the shackles that Israel has placed around its testicles!

On February 4, an official White House statement said:

"Assad must halt his campaign of killing and crimes against his own people now. He must step aside and allow a democratic transition to proceed immediately."

Fact check

Since WW II, no combination of nations caused more slaughter, destruction, and human misery globally that America. Moreover, Washington won't tolerate democracy at home or abroad.

"Assad has no right to lead Syria, and has lost all legitimacy with his people and the international community. The international community must work to protect the Syrian people from this abhorrent brutality."

Fact check

International law prohibits interfering in the internal affairs of other nations, including determining the legitimacy of their leaders. Moreover, Syria's "abhorrent brutality" is entirely Western-backed. It was absent until Washington, key NATO partners, and rogue regional despots intervened, notably Saudi Arabia, and of course, Israel's very much involved.

"We must work with the Syrian people toward building a brighter future for Syria....The suffering citizens of Syria must know: we are with you, and the Assad regime must come to an end."

Fact check

Long-suffering Afghans, Iraqis, Libyans, Somalis, Bahrainis, Yemenis, Palestinians, and many others elsewhere understand the horrors when America intervenes. So do Syrians. They abhor Washington led meddling in their internal affairs and want no part of it.

In fact, a mid-December Qatar Foundation-funded YouGov Siraj poll found 55% of Syrians back Assad. It contradicts Western discourse of majority opposition. Except for the London Guardian, the findings were unreported in the West.

ATS is so anti-USA. I find it interesting.

Anyhoo, should Russia and China want to keep Syria in their pockets... Why do they not just invade and replace it with a regime that can benefit them? Would be very interesting to see them involved.

It's impossible to tell what Russia and China may do should NATO and the Arab League invade Syria. But all the signs lead to some sort of conflict, sadly.

Though, the facts are clear, President Bashar al-Assad is massacring his people. At the end of the day, there will be some sort of military intervention by the Arab League and NATO partners.
