When my sister and her best friend were in high school, they both met two guys on Myspace. These "guys" had my sister and her friend convinced they were from a rich neighborhood in Austin, TX and their families were very well off. Even though the two girls never met either guy, they were completely in love with them and believed everything thing they said. They even had long conversations on the phone with their "boyfriends." Anyway, long story short, it turned out to be some girl with a deep voice that put this whole thing together. She lived about 15 minutes away from our house.

There was a story in our news where someone was scammed by an internet con-artist (guy) who used pictures of this girl (or someone similar) to dupe people. The guy was arrested but the police were asking for information about the girl in the pictures.

I have done a quick search but haven't found the article (with pictures). It was from the New Zealand Herald from some time late last year.
