Sixteen and she behaves that way? Breaking furniture? Throwing food?

What's her parents say about this behavior?

How did you end up with your niece? How old is she? What are the circumstances that caused her to end up in your home?

Honestly, if you feel that way, and you are "stuck" with her permanently, I think the best thing for both of you is to put her in foster care. If it is a situation where her parents are in the military and you have temporary custody, you may want to get her some kind of counseling.

I don't know the situation, but I think that this child is acting out and being wild because she is confused and angry. Kids that know they're not wanted and are hated, tend to act in terrible ways which only perpetuates the situation. As the adult, you hold 90% responsibility for the situation.

I would suggest either sending her to another relative's house, sending her to foster care, or getting help through a family counselor or local mental health clinic. If you don't think your patent hatred of her is scarring her, think again. DEFINITELY get some intervention, for both your sakes.

I am materialistic, because I bought the stuff. Why should everything I buy be destroyed by an incorrigible child that has no value of anything? I bought this stuff. I bought my house. I bought everything in the house. My Turkish rugs are destroyed after this child started living here. My bathroom floor is destroyed from her flooding it out.

Feels like, I have to pack everything up and put in my garage until they find their own place.

It's annoying.

How is it she isn't being taken on base? What are her parents thinking? Seriously, military life should straighten her right out.

Military brats usually turn out alright...assuming they survive...

I hear ya Manhater. I have followed some of your posts about your troubled niece and I can relate.

My 2 step daughters were holy terrors! They went through my house and broke every window using a cast iron pot. They took every bit of food from the cupboards, fridge and freezer and dumped in the irrigation ditch out back. They took every bottle of soap, shampoo, toothpaste, bleach etc.and dumped it the bathtub.

When they ran up a $600 phone bill I put them on phone restriction. The younger one, in protest, took a branch from a tree and beat herself, then told her teacher that I did it. Her older sister chased me and my daughter with knives and broken bottles. I went to CPS for help, but they wouldn't intervene until they were able to prosecute me!

The judge exonerated me and found the children guilty.

Their father and I are divorced now, thank God! Both of them are grown and have their own porn sites!

I would try that route but because she has mental problems and schizophrenia and bi-polarness, they won't accept her. Bah. I think it would do her some good.

So she's old enough to get a job and out of the house now?

What are the US laws on this?

The child has to be 17 in order to get kicked out. 18 in order to be a legal adult and find work on their own. She probably hasn't even graduated yet. She's going to end up on the streets if she doesn't change...

Pure fact.

Lots of programs out there to help, foster care is the last step unless you want to push this 16 y/o over the edge, seriously everything else about your post fission is correct but I have had friends put in foster care and have come out completely destroyed, they came out feeling they weren't wanted.

edited because I didnt know about the schizo and bi polar, wow poor thing.

Her father and mother are getting a divorce. Mother had no where to go. She's my sister, so being nice, I offered to have them stay here. But destroying my stuff, is for the birds. Why couldn't they train their dang child to be dependent on herself? Both her parents are lazy and the kid pretty much brought self up with attitude included.

Kid can't dress herself properly.
Kid can't take a shower or bath. And when she does it's Katrina waiting happen.
Kid doesn't clean up after herself. Looks like a tornado in my home.

OK, I get the situation.

The entire family needs to move out....NOW. Send them to your local welfare agency for homeless assistance. You are enabling the parents to be worthless leeches, and their daughter is in need of mental health intervention.

Sixteen is a hard age. They think they know everything, and hate every authority figure. Get them out and on their own, before something ugly happens. Just because they are "family" doesn't mean that you owe them anything at the expense of your own sanity. You obviously dislike the parents and hate the child. Not a good set-up for any of you. There are agencies that can assist them, who are not related and do not have an emotional stake in the whole mess. You will actually be doing them a favor.

The root of all evil isn't children, it is parents.

Get yourself a water bottle. Everytime she touches something she shouldn't, says something she's not supposed to she gets spritzed in the face. If she wants to act like an animal, train her like one.

You know, thanks for that ideal. I got to go to school. See you after 8PM

I'm not throwing my family out. I don't hate them. I hate the attitude. I hate the destruction of my stuff, that, I spent a lot money on.

I have nothing, and they are ruining, the last stuff I have left.

The other night, the child wanted to kill my dog. It's like I can't trust her in my house when I'm not home in fear of her hurting my dog.

She says, I love the dog more than her. "Not my fault the dog doesn't want to play with you"

Alright, well, I've read what has been provided so far in the case, but I still have one problem...

You are using this child's behavior in order to condemn ALL children. "Children are the root of all evil..."

I take issue with this. Regardless of how your brat acts (and yes, she IS your brat. You are now surrogate parent, and that gives you full responsibility for her) she is not the entirety of the national youth.

Some of the people here have stated that treating a child like a dog makes the child ACT like a dog. This is entirely true (I remember from my own childhood). Use discipline when necessary, and use love the rest of the time...not this impatience and irritation that you're so fond of.

You don't want any kids? Wise choice. I would sincerely hate to be them.

It really isn't too difficult to discipline a child...even if she is 16. I'm sure she isn't too big to put over your knee. Worst comes to worst...I hear juvie really opens eyes.

EDIT: What the frick? You're going to spray her with vinegar? That's not discipline, that's malice! By god...

She topples her mother and I by size. She's 6ft tall.

No, I'm not going spray her with vinegar, but don't they use that to break up animal fights?

Now that's cruel. Just because they have inconvenienced you...have a heart, please.

You've done okay this far, but you obviously aren't capable of much more. Do the welfare thing...really, it's the best thing for everyone involved.

And whatever the child does after that, is her own concern. You did your best, you failed because she wouldn't listen. It isn't your fault. You can't make horses drink...
