Increase in food stamps under George Bush = 14.7 million.
Increase in food stamps under Obama = 14.2 million.
When Bush entered office, the US economy was at a historic high. After 8 years of Bush and the GOP the economy was destroyed and the US was in a deep
recession.
When Obama entered office, the economy was at it's lowest point since the great depression and millions of jobs had been lost under his predecessor.
This greatly inflated the numbers of food stamp recipients under his watch, - rightfully they belong to Bush and GOP policies.
So who's the "food stamp president"? That honors goes to G.W. Bush. Bush
still managed to add 500,000 more people to food stamps than Obama, in
spite of the Great Recession he had to deal with.
One graphic speaks volumes about who is better for the economy: (and doing this all the while the GOP continues to sabotage his efforts and wreck the
economy - "damn the country, Obama must fail")
Red = Bush
Blue = Obama
Edit to add:
source for food stamp statistics:
Fact check: Gingrich's faulty food-stamp
claim
But Gingrich goes too far to say Obama has put more on the rolls than other presidents. We asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and
Nutrition service for month-by-month figures going back to January 2001. And they show that under President George W. Bush the number of recipients
rose by nearly 14.7 million. Nothing before comes close to that.
And under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. To be exact, the program has so far grown by 444,574 fewer recipients during Obama’s
time in office than during Bush’s.
