Not just one post, but an entire thread...surely thats ban worthy? At the end, he even basically admits its "for the lulz".

The only way to win is to not play...unfortunately, they are so good at trolling, you dont realize until it is too late, and ATS seems to be a HUGE target for these trolls, due to the political and paranormal/UFOish type topics. It unfortunately, is just ruining ATS.

Maybe I should just give up talking to people on the internet if its my problem.....but then why bother having sites like ATS?

You can always hit the alert button.

A good moderator by the name of magic taught me that.

The anon-tards even post instructions for each other on how to troll:

Just go to the left pane where it says member, and from the drop-down menu, choose "alert", to notify mods about a troll.

Best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them. Trolls feed off fury and missplaced anger. Do not give in to them, rise above them and just ignore them. If you take their bait, then you're playing their game. Don't play the game and they're not getting any enjoyment anymore.

If it really bothers you so much, then maybe you should... just don't take it personally and don't let them get to you.

but then why bother having sites like ATS?

Because not everyone thinks the way you do.
Many people don't mind and don't get so annoyed at dealing with people.
We can't just close the internet because you had a hissy fit now can we?

Trolling, And What To Do About It

The subject has come up before.

Nice that you gave opportunity for clarification of what *else* trolling can be. What about the repetition of the same opinion ad nauseum from the same person for days and weeks? Is that not trolling and worth removal and warning? You forgot to address that. That is specifically what I meant when I kicked up this dust.

And I did alert on the guy and complained about the other. No response from anyone at all. Fking crickets.

Edit: Yes, it's very amusing that you are demonstrating your method by not addressing me, but it won't work. I will get answers. You can take all those absurd points away and everything else. Short of banning me, I will persist. Just answer. It's your job, is it not?

And maybe staff can remove their posts. That could be helpful too. It's kind of like when you walk dogs. It's appreciated when you clean up their $#!7, is it not?

All members are entitled to express their opinions, as long as they do so in accordance with the AboveTopSecret.com Terms And Conditions Of Use.

Members are not required to change their opinions to satisfy the desires of other members, and what you consider trolling may not, in fact, be trolling.

We receive many alerts and complaints each day and assess their merit on the basis of the terms & conditions. As mentioned in the article on trolling, what we decide to do may not be obvious.

If you believe an alert or complaint has not been acted upon properly, you are quite welcome to let us know and we'll look into it. However, this forum and thread would not be the appropriate place to discuss specific cases.

Absolutely not. And neither was the other thread. And neither was my discussion in u2u you with the mod who slapped me for "trolling".

It's just fine though. You guys are all brilliant stars in an otherwise cloudy, murky sky. Just bloody stellar.

I know exactly what you mean....Did you also notice there are "intelligent" trolls?

Some topics are very troll sensitive.....chemtrails for example. Topics where you can not proof or have hard facts are easy targets for these midgets. Sometimes they operate in teams and give eachother stars for their troll.

Some troll because you nailed them in a thread. These are often highly credited members and just can not bear that someone disprove or is able question their writing. Sometimes they will wait for the opportunity to get back at you in some childish way...somewhere in time.

One way to avoid factual corrections that some here seem to consider as trolling is to state opinions or suspicions or hypotheticals instead of facts.

"I think the govt would not be above chemtrailing us" vs "The govt has admitted chemtrailing us"

If the Govt has admitted chemtrailing us then people are perfectly entitled to see that admission for themselves, and if you cannot actually provide it then you're going to get stick.

However if you believe that the govt would chemtrail us (for some circumstances or reasons) then who can argue against that??

How is this thread a platform for anti chemtrail propaganda? I thought it was about trolling?

Okay that pony with the whistle scared my ferret

So just for clarity if a person follows you to thread after thread with the same comment say for example "It's only rocks... you nuts"

Does that count as trolling? I don't care personally because I think its funny...

But I think that is what is being asked and just pointing to the T&C does not always provide an answer.

Yeah but it bears this message...

We encourage members to alert us to posts that might be a potential problem. However, please be aware that this feature is intended for flagrant violations of our Terms & Conditions such as trouble makers, insults, inappropriate content, and potential copyright violations. This feature is not intended to alert staff to minor issues like 1-liner or off-topic posts.

So I suppose it depends on where the line is drawn between 'flagrant' and 'minor' or just a 'whine'

The point is, you cant have a valid discussion. If you provide facts, they just say "nuh-uh" and then say some stupid one liner. Its just a big waste of time...but in the end, I guess ATS is just a big waste of time, and maybe I should stop coming here.

Look, he trolled me so bad, he had to follow me into this topic and be the first to reply, ignoring what I posted (about alerting single posts)....that isnt trolling in itself? But its all for the lulz....soon we will be LOLing so hard we wont realize when its too late.

Because I want to report the actions over a whole thread...each post individually can be argued "THAT wasnt trolling!" but when taken all at once in their context show the greater whole.

But obviously no one cares. Spread lies and hoaxes about UFOs on ATS and you get banned...spread lies and hoaxes about socialism and they make you a mod.

You can write a story in your alert to mods complaining about serial bad behaviour over a whole thread - as I found out a few months ago when I posted an alert on several messages in 1 thread - I got a message back saying "no need to post any more alerts - we're looking at he whole thread"

so your stalker's advice is actually still good!

That & I'd add there's no requirement to respond or reply or read or take to heart anyone's posts on here.

You can alert the mods on the whole thread up at the top under where you can flag it.
