Whats up with that???

I cannot even count how many times I have heard/read that Romney is actually
liberal and NOT conservative. A RINO, what ever you want to call it...

But I can swear that the conservative ATS members we know and love are in each
and every anti Romney thread, defending him, making excuses for him and attempting
to protect his political viability. Romney is the man who championed and signed into
law, healthcare mandates which Obama care was model after. Romney has received
TONS of big government, Corporate welfare.

Mitt Romney actually attacks Barack Obama for cutting funding out of Medicare, something YOU
pay for, when the government TAKES your money, and gives it to others.

In short, Romney hates that the SOCIALIST Obama, is trying to take it easy on the socialism...

So hell must have frozen over here, or have people gone nuts? Do the majority of
average conservatives have ANY sense of how bad this makes you guys look?

Is conservatism just a myth, or is it just some rhetorical tool???

I mean you sure can bash the Kids of Occupy trying to effect change, but some of you actually
ASSIST Romney crap on your conservative convictions.

If you hate Obama's policies, why are gonna stand there and let the GOP run THIS guy?

Can only speak from my experience, but it seems to me that many conservatives are still under the delusion that it's the 30 years ago and Republican = conservative.

And Republican does technically still mean conservative. But, more precisely, it means Neo-Con these days. Something entirely different, but it's still okay because it's for things like "defense" and welfare for the "job creators".

Funny stuff, gotta love it.

Repubs have been screaming about Obama having all of these Wall Street insiders in his cabinet, while they are about to elect someone who is a Wall Street Insider, Mitt Romney is a banker, part of the elite 1 percent, with close ties to Goldman Sachs.

Electing Romney will be like handing the keys to the country over the the Wall Street bankers, who by the way, are bankrolling his campaign.

It will be interesting after these years of attacking Obama over Wall Street insiders in his cabinet, what mental contortions republicans are going to have to go through to support ole Mitt.

Lets be fair...Romney is niether a "Liberal" or "Conservative", he is simply a man who will do or say anything to get elected.

I suspect beyond his contrived rhetoric, what lies beneath is a simple idealogy of GREED and AMBITION.

The base that supports him find themselves working hard to pretend they can't notice that fact, evidenced by the spasms in the polls by Bachman, Cain, Santorum and Gingrich...I think I got that spasm of conscience order correct?

In the end Romeny can round up the "Anybody but Obama crowd!" who will hold their nose and vote, plus a smaller segment that isn't politically aware enough to smell his BS from the back of a Romney Rally and the corporatists, wealthy elite who will see his true nature as idealogical bretheren and write him endless checks.

BUT...he will have a very hard time securing the independant moderates given how much he has shifted to the right to secure the nomination and the RP loyalists view Romney with appropriate disdain...and without the tie breaking independants I don't see him winning.

I suspect he will try to come back to the middle in a general election to grab the independants, but by doing so he will confirm the suspicions of the far right that he was posing as a conservative and lose some of that vote.

I don't see a winning strategy for him, but time will tell.

Should be interesting though...
