Seriously. Those sites are not all about pirating movies etc. A LOT of places put out free to use products, books, music, etc. Or as an earlier poster said: Developmental software and the sort. My son created a few albums, free for people to download and he had his files on mega uploads. Lost now. Gone. Cuz of censorship and trying to tell people what they can and can not do. TONS of folks pay for subscriptions to store their stuff on sites for easier access. It's not all about thievery.

On the other side of the story, I'm all for trying out huge expensive products before putting my hard gotten money into them. I refuse to pay 3k for a music program or CS5 program or animation program, etc. I want to get the full thing first, fully try it out in every way (not those 'free trials but half the stuff is blocked out so you can't use it til you buy it crap') and if I like it, buy it. If not, toss it and keep searching for the right fit for my needs. If they take that away from me, I'm sure I won't be the only person who won't buy jack crap any longer from corporations.

I sure don't buy a house or car or boat or motorcycle or horse etc with only a trial of the full package. If someone told me sure you can try it out but do not
a. drive it past 30 mph. Can't do that til you pay in full for it
b. don't go in the basement or attic and no turning on the water or flushing toilets until you pay in full for it.
c. don't take the horse past a walk until you pay in full for it.
d. Just walk the motorcycle around. You may start it but you can't drive it period til you pay fully for it.

I'd not buy jack crap. I want to try the entire thing, 100% for a few good go-abouts before I put in thousands or even hundreds for it.

Seems to me the entertainment industry is stuck in the past. Gone are the days of vinyl and cassettes replaced by mp3 and the like. I'm sure they hate the Internet and it's army of nerds. There's the old saying "it takes money to make money" but I wonder how much money has been spent (theirs and ours) fighting "piracy". I put piracy in quotes because all one does is make a copy.
Recently a co-worker downloaded Moneyball. 30 minutes into the movie, audio and video crapped out and he was greeted by a cute little Cinavia screen.
Wiki article on Cinavia
After thoroughly ridiculing him for being a share n00b, I got to thinking...
Why not modify this existing technology to corrupt the files after watching/listening a set number of times? Sure you can just download again, but it takes time (time is money, right? LOL). For the most part, if a movie is liked by an individual, then said individual will buy the DVD/CD in all its slick-packaged glory. This method (to me, anyway) would make the entertainment industry seem less Gestapo and stuff. Let's not forget how cool Metallica was after the big Napster brawl. All this brings me to yet another old saying: "You catch more flies with honey."

I am able to access both isohunt.com and minnova.org just fine but when attempting to access thepiratebay.org and thepiratebay.se I get the generic "page cannot be displayed" error but when I check those "is it down" websites they say the site is down. Is this something that my ISP is doing or is the site actually down?

And the "funny" thing is there has been NO pirated content on mininova for a long time. Only legal/free stuff is allowed there.
