Romney: "I'm Not Concerned About the Very Poor"

He's right. I was 3 the last time I talked to my father, no idea where he is. Being an only child I grew up in a small house, each floor belonged to a different family. My mother and myself lived on the middle floor and I remember never having anything to eat but peanut butter. I worked my way through college and am starting law school in the fall. I wasn;t given a thing by anyone. When I hear excuses I want to rage because the truth is when I was studying and working you were not so I feel zero empathy.

we live in AMERICA, this is the place where you should be able to make whatever you want to without being criticized for it...

Why does everyone want to say we are better off than China and Africa. Do we really want to sink to their level? Compare us to other wealthy nations and say we are better off. Most the people who say this have never even been outside the US. I have and we are getting ripped off!

I was middle class but since the recovery did not come in time I am now poor. My husband and I made less than $16,000 the last three years in a row with no government assistance. Go ahead kick us while we are already down on the ground. Allot of us have nothing left to loose. Go ahead and try and tighten the screws even tighter. Sooner latter the lid will blow off.

Allot of us "poor" people aren't living it up. My gun is the last of my valuables I haven't sold to keep the lights on and food on the table and I am not the only one out here in that position. Who knows I may sell it and hitch a ride to Canada and sneak across the border or then again maybe not. Desperate people with out options dont always make good decisions.

No threat intended just saying for those who still think they can squeeze us harder I suggest you think twice about it..

I think that system is fine.

It's not a problem for him because they represent a very small electorate, compare to the middle class he is catering to, telling them what they want to hear to get elected.

As far as out of context, i think the OP is not out of context: quoting "i am not concerned about the very poor because they have a safety net," is pretty in context, even though perhaps a clarification--a clarification which does not make any better the statement that 'i do not care about the very poor'--would add nothing to the statement.

The system is fine? Wow. The poor can barely get out of the rut they are in, these days, because the American dream is dwindling because of corporation and people like "fire-people" Romney.

And that system is fine, or is it because they get *some* government assistance?

Not only are they are a deliberately created economic group upon whom a lot of middle class jobs are predicated, the liquidity of their spending power, both personal income and the incomes of those whose work involves servicing the Section 8 housing, medicaid etc., helps keep the fiscal wheels well oiled.

What I don't understand is that he wants to run for President, but fails to realize that a lot of veterans who fought the foreign wars that he is so in favor of fall under this category i.e Homeless people.

I agree that the quote is taken completely out of context. If you read the entire story, what he said makes sense. He just should have worded it differently. The poor (the real poor) are still being taken care of the way they always have.

Before everything feel apart my husband and I would sometimes work 50-60 hours a week. I got an education the only thing its doing for me these days is making me over qualified for the crappy jobs I am willing to take but cant get hired for because I am over educated and over qualified. The only work we have been able to find is temporary work, paying sometimes $10 or more, less than I used to make. I am willing to and have tried to go to some of the day labor places to even dig ditches to pay the bills but there are too many "qualified" people and not enough work.

Politicians will spend trillions of dollars getting elected this year. Really think they care about anyone but their big contributors? Politicians no matter what party have been bought and sold before they ever get elected. I have no illusions that ANY of the candidates running care about me or anyone like me. The whole thing is a sick sad joke.

Positions of such high power are not able to serve the sheep who are truly in need. The longer we rely on this charade, the worse the repercussions for our foolishness. I'm a Ron Paul supporter not a Romney supporter but I have to agree with this statement. The poor do have safety nets in place that the working middle class doesn't have.
Can you afford to go to Disney World or Sea World? People on Welfare can. Our local news station here in St. Louis found that Missouri welfare dollars are being withdrawn at places like Sea World and Magical Midway Amusement park in Orlando, Fl. That is totally wrong!!!! $2,983,984 to Charity in 2010. That's almost 15% of his income. Do you give 15% of your income to charity?

The Middle class pays the majority of income taxes and without the middle class, there will be no tax dollars to give the poor people and then they'll be in trouble

Yeah but being "very poor" should be out of the question if you are an American. America shouldn't have a category of being very poor to begin with. It should just be middle class, and wealthy. How we ended up with very poor people is something to think about.

I pay 29% in taxes. I earn a fraction of what Romney does. In 2010 he paid 13.9% in taxes.

In 2009 and possibly in 2008, he may have paid ZERO in taxes.

It's wealth distribution alright, from the 99% straight into the pockets of the 1%. We are living in the new gilded age of the robber barons, and they are partying hard on Wall Street.

Give this a try, it took me a year to earn what Mittens earned in day, and I don't get any of the special tax breaks he does. Mitt earns in 5 hours what a person working minimum wage earns in a year. But don't worry about those minimum wage earners, they have that safety net, LOL.

But Romney is NOT a supporter of the middle class. He is a supporter on the investor
class, who are the same people controlling Washington and the army of lobbyists
there.

Look at Romney's business practices and you will see it is the EMBODIMENT of
what NAFTA and GAT have done to the country. Romney, made money by
ELIMINATING the middle out of the companies his firm took over. They intentionally
gutted the mid range pay scales, so that he could extract money from the companies,
which also put those companies in the RED. Romney profited off of a model of fiscal
irresponsibility because he could skim all of the fat he created and not be responsible
for the end results, via corporate law and the IRS code.

Romney is the consummate US economic hit man, it was his job to do exactly what
America is suffering from, out source downsize, incur debt, extract that debt in the
form of a salary.
