Well I am no hippy. but eventually you have to see the logic in not wanting to 'f' up this planet too bad... It's the only one we have after all...

I don't know if you got the memo but you can't breath the air on mars.

For sure.

We could always colonize Mars though.

With our current level of technology...

Not a snowballs chance...

Besides would you want to live there? Recycled air... Goop for food since you wouldn't have cattle or agriculture.... Never go outside again.. If you were to go outside the low pressure atmosphere would cause your eyes to pop out of their sockets right before you suffocate to death...

Naw I'd rather just keep the earth in ok condition thanks...

I mean I'm all for progress but we need to draw the line somewhere dude.

I'd argue that it was the consciousness expanding effects of some of those "drugs" that woke people up and started the hippie revolution. I'd also agree that it was the misuse and overuse of some of those same "drugs" that led to the eventual downfall of the movement.

I did say drugs were the destruction of the original Hippies -- which was a political movement.

The emergence of the drug culture - - just happened to start in the same area at about the same time. They were separate - - but came crashing together like a head on collision.

A friend of mine lived in one of the earliest communes. She said they did smoke some - - but not in excess that some believe. You can't raise children - grow and cook natural foods - etc. Living natural is a lot of hard work. She said when the hard stuff came in - - it totally destroyed everything.

I added the quote marks around "hippies".

Gotcha. And agreed. I call those folks Militant Hippies... the kind that when I see them, I get this mental image of them clutching their latest Gucci and screaming "I'm a Hippy Goddammit!" at the top of their voice.

Definitely not the real thing. Unfortunate that these folks and real hippies are confused in the minds of many...

I agree with you, and I especially love it when envirohippie millionaire celebrities fly around in their private jets and trash the place where they are protesting while lecturing us and spending wayyyy more on their partying and lifestyles than the average American. I am also for free enterprise so I don't deny them their lifestyle but then what gives them the right to deny the rest of the word?

I am truly sick of these Marxist/socialist ideologues who insist that the bourgeoisie(middle class) feed both the rich and the poor alike.
Karl Marx died a pauper from his own worthless ideology.

Environmentalists are the worst. These morally superior people want us to go backwards. Sometimes I wonder wether they are more interested in reducing our standard of living than mantaining the environment.

And what motivates someone to protest something like the Keystone Pipeline?

Text The total area that has been affected by surface mining represents only 0.1% of Canada's boreal forest. The oil sands account for about 0.1% of global greenhouse-gas emissions. Electricity plants powered by coal in the U.S. generate almost 40 times more greenhouse-gas emissions than Canada's oil sands (the coal-fired electricity plants in the State of Wisconsin alone produce the equivalent of the entire GHG emissions of the oil sands). California bitumen is more GHG-intensive than the oil sands. Oliver criticized opponents of the pipeline, stating that all of the above facts are ignored by "celebrity protestors."

I like how Oliver gives it to 'celebrity protesters'. Would anybody care if it wasnt en vougue to stomp around like an environazi? The US economy is a mess and these hippies have nothing better to do than stop something that will create jobs? Yet Im sure the people that protested the pipeline have no problem with Obamas crony capitalism grants to failed 'clean energy' projects like solyndra.

Hippies dont want us to be able to afford electricity or fuel or even water. They want us to pay 'carbon tax' and feel bad about our 'carbon footprint'. They want to use taxpayer money to fund their unfounded crusade against the human race.

If these hippies want conservation they should stop being fooled by the likes Obama and vote for a conservative.

The Democrats make fools of all you hippies. They are laughing at you.

Yeah...... and I am sure the cranky old men and women who cause wars, famine, poverty and chaos are making the world go round right?

Its also a very heavy title to give to yourself, but by reading this thread it seems he must be proud to have that name, he thinks he's better then others.

But hey, what do I care, this guy hates me already, even though he doesnt know me, he doesnt know my stances on politics and 'saving the earth'.
Apparently, because I and with me among others, think different then him makes us the 'world-destroyers'.

Oh well, I guess we could always escape to Mars in 2020 with the republican spaceplan after they ruined the earth for "a better living"

And don't ever forget that the liberal icon JFK was the very proud sponsor of the American space race.

On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session of Congress the dramatic and ambitious goal of sending an American safely to the Moon before the end of the decade. A number of political factors affected Kennedy's decision and the timing of it. In general, Kennedy felt great pressure to have the United States "catch up to and overtake" the Soviet Union in the "space race." Four years after the Sputnik shock of 1957, the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin had become the first human in space on April 12, 1961, greatly embarrassing the U.S.

I did want to say something in re: to gas pipelines that you said earlier..

I think the mistake the environmentalists make is really thinking the pipeline has a huge effect on the local ecosystem.. They actually think it hurts the wild life..

Now I'm a hunter (which actually makes me more environmentally conscious than non hunters to be honest) which means I like to trek into the beautiful wilds in search of prey (food) and enjoy what the natural world has to offer..

So more than most I see first hand the effect the oil pipeline has on the local wildlife...

During the winter times here in the mountains foliage that wildlife uses for a food source is usually covered by about 3 to 4 feet of snow (on an average year).. They in turn have nothing to eat to survive the harsh winters here..

Well the gas pipeline generates enough heat to melt the snow around it causing the plant life to get exposed... You guessed it.. the gas pipeline actually provides them a food source that they would not have otherwise which in turn prevents the harsh winter from killing off extreme numbers of the population... The gas pipeline is actually a god send to the local wildlife...

No global warming for 15 years...we may be cycling into record freezing...get off the global warming crap already...everyone knows the truth, you can't use it for power anymore, it's laughable.

I agree with the op....enviromentalists would rather us go back to the dark ages and alot of powerful people who can make money off "green" crap are using them to their benefit. What a joke.

hallelujah

And like you say "everyone" should be onto this global warming scam by now.

People that perpetuate the bs make me sad.

Not only are they sad, but they are behind the times already. The Power Elite have moved on to greener pastures of fleecing people with financial transaction taxes. Don't worry though. UN Agenda 21 is still pushing the "America is trashing the world therefore America must pay to feed everyone on the planet living under a dollar a day". And that is also where POTUS and vice POTUS got their brilliant idea for their Global Poverty Act which failed to pass in Congress when they were both Senators.

I was just wondering,

when you go voting....do you also only vote for the ones who promise "tax cuts"?

Because this is the same logic as you thinking that "being able to run my air condition 24/7 without paying too much" is obviously a solution to anything.

Also..i was actually expecting something halfway intelligent in this thread, something like valid arguments or someone, although sharing a unpopular opinion, STILL having valid points.

Sadly, i don't see anything here except repeatedly pointing out how important YOUR "living standard" is and how it's important for you not to pay too much to run your A/C 24/7...and you expect a discussion here..or did you just do this for the sake of trolling and for sprouting your hate for whoever you don't like on whatever political side? (Because this is all i see in this thread).

i think the best thing would be if no one voted...

i cant imagine the president actually having any direct effect over anything... obama thought he could preach change and successfully produce positive change... do you really blame it on him when he got in office and was strapped into the predetermined roller coster ride,, and if ron paul got elected do you think he would have any more of a personal say... history is a tight script written long ago.

The President and Mrs President would both vote for him and then if nobody else voted he would be President by default, unless your plan of no voting didn't include the electoral college. What good would that do? Or he would just declare himself the President by EO.
And yes I do blame him for perpetuating the idiotic socialist bull ideology of forced confiscation of the paychecks of middle class and giving it to the poor and rich alike while his buddies from Goldman Sachs got huge bonuses and a baillout for their failed policies and the failed policies of the socialist plan to subsidize homes for poor people. It's an insane policy and Karl Marx was the proud sponsor of that craziness.
