I like hippies even though they can have a tendency to frustrate and annoy me at times.

They are happy, like to have a good time and they care - what's not to like about that?

Not the oil companies who poison the sea and land, destroying vast areas and leaving them uninhabitable.
Not the energy companies who hold back technology which would easily sort out our problems, but they'd not make any money off it so we don't get the choice.
Not the goverments who send out wave after wave of army men to kill, bomb and destroy everything in their paths
Not the major companies who use slave labour, forcing children to work long hours, paying them virtually nothing
Not the chemical companies who dump toxic waste all over the planet
Not the industries who cut down vast swathes of forest, to quench our thirst for wood
Not the banks stealing peoples houses without remorse, leaving them homeless
Not the goverments who want to strip us of every right, and control us as a fully compliant dosile race
Not the police who are only happy to make sure that we DO compy to any stupid regulation goverments employ
Not our ENTIRE way of life as it stands at the moment.

No, it's the hippies. Yeah, they're running round wrecking the planet, killing people, maining people, leaving them in abject poverty out on the streets. "Hippies" threaten your kushy little life, becasue they want you to take a step back and look at the damage this way of life is doing, not only to ourselves, but to the planet. They are not the problem, we are the problem, the whole direction that the modern world is heading, is the problem. It's just some people don't want to change. They like it like this, it's comfortable, as long as they don't have to think about those who suffer, so they can live like this, it's all good. And if anyone dare to remind them, of how their sweet little position means that people are truly struggling so that you can use your computer, then those people must be evil as they've just upset your little apple cart. Take some responsibility for your actions, and stop trying to blame others for pointing out that our way of life is wrecking everything for future generations.

I am socialist and all for simple sustainable living. I know that there is no need to pay inflated prices for energy. It should be getting cheaper.

Imperialsm is the problem. Upward mobility actually does work when you remove the imperialism. Take away the IMF, 'financial aid' 'charity. When that happens we can move forward together.

Nope, not really a NATO ect sort of guy. That's all a little NWO for me. (I don't believe that any man/group should have juristiction over another, although i do see the need for order)

And by myself, no, I'm not going out of my way to wreak havok on the enviroment, but the technology I use every day, from my car to my lap top, from my phone to my turntables....that has an impact. And if you take me, and multiply it by however many billions of others, just like me, use these technologies unaware that those who made them are possibly crippled by now, or poisoned by the chemicals used, and that the enviromental impact when I upgrade all of this stuff, x how ever many billions of people are doing the very same, filling the landfulls with obsolete tech, that makes an impact. Especially when you multiply what you use, by how ever many billions are also using and dumping as if there is nothing to worry about. That's making a huge impact on the quality of lives of those who are on the wrong end of the industries which supply us with our luxuries.

Let's not inflate the numbers... 13,000 construction jobs and maybe 7,000 more jobs making pipes or pump houses. Like I said, it wouldn't put a dent in this recession but it'll affect millions of lives. And what makes you think this will lead to cheaper gas? Don't believe what you read. Didn't you think we'd get cheaper gas after the War with Iraq? Well, how did that work out for the consumers?

I agree but I think these issues are not envronmental.

I think we need to push for consumer rights. I think we need Ron Paul to end the Imperial domination of nations by the US government. End the IMF mafia.

I see OWS as adressing/highlighting these things and others. I dont think they are all hippies there. Just some.

I think your opening post may have been a little ill thought out, and possibly intentionally inflamatory. (also the thread title is a little tabloid-esque) Because as your answers to me have revealed, you're on the same side as many of those who some would call hippies. I'm reasonably sure that a few of the posts which have been a bit ranty and shouty, have been in reaction to that. You have disagreements in the enviromental issues, but a tonne of people do, and rightly so. Man made glabal warming is 99% BS and 1% spin. But that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be to our benifit if we could cut our usages, and our waste.

And yeah,I dont mean to offend anyone too bad. Gets people talking though. I was going to write a thread about how you can become disenchanted so easily when you are on the left. The left leaning parties just see us as voting groups tp prey on it sucks. Im sure that wouldnt have been any more intelligent than this thread but Id say more boring.

The OP has a point. Quality of life and development is more important than environment and nature. Nature is here to serve us, not the other way around. I have little love for hippies that want to go backwards, thats for sure. Technology will be our salvation, not trees or whales or polar bears.

On the other hand, it is true that our present state is unsustainable. Not so much because of environment, but because fossil fuels will run out. For that reason, we need other energy sources, including "hippie" renewables, and also nuclear. Sustainability is desirable if it does not reduce material quality of life.

Liberals and Conservatives are all on the same team, they just pretend to fight each other and it is you they are laughing at.
