If they are so mundane why wait over forty years before releasing them? Either the government has something to hide or they are oblivious to the fact that they do things to make people think they have something to hide.
Some files are top secret only regardless of their nature and I'll bet these recordings were classified because it involved the assassination of a President.
In which case, classified stuff is kept that way for decades until information can be freely released like they did with the Area 51 info decades after the Cold War ended since it was a spy aircraft facility throughout the 50s and onwards until the early 90s.
Nothing suspicious about it.
