No idea if it is at all relevant but sometimes image files such as tiff can carry a malicious payload. This is on at least one occasion the way the
iPhone/IPod Touch was jailbroken. I have no idea how many image formats have contained these exploits in the past or which formats it is even possible
with but it might be something to bear in mind. An old software library (libtiff in my Linux box) might let that happen, theoretically.
