Wal-Mart killed K-Mart. They're closing all their stores. They're also killing Sears and JCPennys (who collectively killed off Montgomery Ward in
the 1970's)...
But fear not! Wal-Mart is not near as invincible as some people think. Target is holding its own against them right now, as are specialty stores (like
Office Depot, Home Depot, GameStop, Suncoast, etc.) that have better selections than Wal-Mart in what they specialize in. Also, the biggest and most
frequently accessed Wal-Marts are in small towns -- big cities, with their variety and selection, rarely have a consumer demand for Wal-Marts.
Just like Montgomery Ward in the past, and the stores that Wal-Mart is killing now, one day Wal-Mart's number will be up, and they'll be replaced by
one or two competitors in the future. It's the way of the free market.
