I'll always remember the unofficial name we RAF chaps gave the Argosy in 1969/70: 40,000 rivets in loose formation!

They were so old and probably not at all airworthy, and they also had the very annoying practice of coming apart, usually in mid flight!

Pieces would fall off on take off or landing and sometimes whilst in the air, things would rattle so much that nuts and bolts often seperated.

Thank you USA, for selling us Fat Alberts. God, we really needed them.

WWII German Machine guns were called Burp Guns, or Hitler's Zipper.
One water-cooled model was called a grease-gun because the cooling jacket on the barrel made it resemble an automechanic's grease gun.

Also, it was not a weapon, but the WWII an/crt3 rescue transmitter was called a "Gibson Girl" due to the femine contours of the cabinet. The odd shape allowed the operator to hold the transmitter firmly between the legs which freed the left hand to operate the built-in hand-cranked generator, while the right-hand was free to operate the telegraph key. The telegraph key was mounted on a large spring-metal clip that the operator could wear on his right thigh.
