Your first guess of Lie was partially correct but it's a specific Lie that's the answer, because if a Lie (Boojum) is disguised as a Truth (Snark), once unveiled, it is still a Lie, which the Riddle says it doesn't exist as what it is.

And since I've confused the issue even more, I will state up front that the answer is kNot a Lie disguised as the Truth, although the actual answer is just that, but more specific.

When you finish throwing salt over your left shoulder and shoot the black cat that just crossed your path and walk around that ladder, instead of under it, you might figure out the answer.
