NEWS: LAX and Ontario Airports Closed Due to Radar Failure

Los Angeles and Ontario airports in California have been closed due to radar failure. A full ground stop has been put in place. A major power outage in Nevada is the claimed source, but this has not been officially confirmed. No flights are being allowed to take off, but air traffic is being allowed to land.

This is interesting. Did it just happen or did it happen a while ago. Also, how big is this major power outage?

It broke on the 5:00PM News. No news yet on how big the power outage in Nevada is. Will keep you up to date.

Isn't this the 2nd time in a week or so that something happens at LAX?

Thanks for the reply Jarhead. At the fact that a bird landing on a power line caused a power outage.

Has anyone heard any news from Nevada? It was briefly reported that that is where the outage originated.

KNBC is reporting that it was a TRACON facility in Palmdale, CA that caused the problem.

It's interesting to note that President Bush was in Las Vegas today. Even though his flight departed before the radio failure began, a plane full of reporters that follow him were stranded.

LAX seems to be having a lot of problems lately. It seems they shut down last weekend for several hours.
It also seems like they've had other issues this year with not being open.

Reminds me of the beginning of Close Encounters.....
