United Nations humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories, Maxwell Gaylard says:

“The current policy and practice of demolition causes extensive human suffering and should end”

Of course. the big question is:

Will Israel listen ?

Will Israel be punished if they do not comply ?

The United Nations has demanded that Israel stops the demolition of Palestinian homes in the West Bank following a report on the “dramatic” increase in homes being knocked down.

According to the report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 622 Palestinian homes were demolished by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2011, “forcibly displacing” almost 1,100 people, over half of them children, Agence France Presse (AFP) reports.

Gaylard said that on Thursday he visited the village of Anata near Jerusalem, which has recently seen seven Palestinian homes destroyed.

“He was informed that bulldozers and troops had arrived in the middle of the night of 23 January and that 52 people, including 29 children, had been forced from their homes, which were then completely destroyed,” a UN statement said.

Israeli authorities insist that they only demolish homes built without the required permission. But the Palestinians say they are rarely granted permits, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, Israeli diplomat and former ambassador to Russia Anna Azari told Interfax news agency that Israel is not going to freeze its settlement activities in the West Bank in order to restart talks with the Palestinians. “I would like to remind you that Israel had already frozen settlement activity for 10 months but, nevertheless, Abbas did not come to the negotiations table. So we will not repeat that.”

As tensions between the two sides grow, UN chief Ban Ki-moon is planning to visit Jerusalem and Ramallah next week.

Does Israel Need Sanctions placed Against Them ?

The United Nations on Friday called on Israel to immediately halt the destruction of Palestinian homes in the West Bank after reporting a dramatic rise in demolitions in the past year.

Israeli forces destroyed 622 Palestinian homes in the West Bank in 2011, "forcibly displacing" almost 1,100 people, over half of them children, according to a UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report.

Gaylard said he went on Thursday to the village of Anata near Jerusalem where seven Palestinian homes were demolished this week.

"He was informed that bulldozers and troops had arrived in the middle of the night of 23 January and that 52 people, including 29 children, had been forced from their homes, which were then completely destroyed," said a UN statement.

The operation was carried out Monday night. The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) said Israeli forces demolished Beit Arabiya, a family home and "peace centre" at Anata, that has now been destroyed five times since 1994. Israel's administration for the West Bank said.

Israel should have had sanctions placed against them decades ago. But in the end Israel will do what they want as always and nothing will be done about it. But seeing how their Samson option is a terrorist threat against all of Europe it's a small wonder why they get away with what they do.

"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: 'Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.' I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.

Hell no! They will say that it's anti semetic and that the UN should mind their own business...

Will Israel be punished if they do not comply?

Hell no x2... They will blame the UN of being anti semetic and that they should mind their own business...

This is how they've been getting away with murder... And almost every country so far who has gone against israel ha either fallen or is going to be at war damn soon... IE: Libya, Syria, IRAN... just to name a few...

The one thing they never mention in these articles is how old these homes are. It's not like Israel is tearing down just new homes they are tearing down homes that are older than Israel. Besides what gives Israel the right to issue permits there anyway? Is this land that was given to them in 48? If not it's stolen land so Israel needs to back off.

I have to say that NO ... Israel will not listen ..

They have never listened and nothing has ever happened to them, it's really easy to blame one party when all you hear about them is bad.

Neither side should be there and doing what they are doing, but I don't see this ending peacefully in any situation. IMO Israel needs to be happy with what the world gave them in 1948 and basically STFU!

It all sounds like schoolyard fighting to me, Israel needs to grow up, I honestly believe that. I don't hate Jewish people, but really grow up already!

Israel have obviously forgotten what happened 70 years ago as they are acting like Nazi wankers
and have been for sometime. Give it all back to the Palistinians they lived there for over
1000 years before 1946.

Lemme fix it for you.

Will Israel be punished if WHEN they do not comply ?

They never have before, why now?
They will continue their campaign of genocide and still prove themselves yet again to be worse than what they accused the Germans of.
But, they are the chosen people so...

Mad how much power Israel has, especially when you understand that the whole power scenario is derived from some words a fictional character made, in a fictional book...

If it was any other people using fictional words to lay claim to something, then they would just get called insane and bombed to smithereens in the name of 'Peace' or 'Democracy'

They will never stop their expansion into the occupied territories. When you have some of the richest individuals in the world investing in business's in the occupied territories, it's clear they have no intention of leaving.

Check out this guy Poju Zabludowicz, who has invested heavily into The occupied territories. He's one of the richest guys in the world.

Although Zabludowicz is himself not an Israeli citizen he is widely seen as a major player in its political life because his 'involvement is extremely deep.' Sami Peretz recalls his personal connection with Israel as one that goes back several decades when his father, Shlomo, a successful arms dealer, worked closely with Shimon Peres to develop the Israeli arms industry. Poju's fortune has been estimated by the Sunday Times at two billion pounds sterling (about 3.12 billion dollars).

www.middleeastmonitor.org.uk...

He is also a large donator of BICOM. bicom.org.uk... and is a large donator to the British Conservative party.

Good point there.

Who might some of the richest be ?

And what kinds of businesses ?

Does anyone have details.

And does anyone know WHO actually has land titles, deeds, etc. on that Palestinian land ?

If Israeli "settlers" go in and "occupy", who are the landowners ?

Bet me to it. They are just persecuting the Palestinians like they were persecuted in WWII. No better than the nazis.

It's a lovely gesture but it's a bit like trying to quell a forest fire by blowing gently through a Capri Sun straw. Not effective or even close to being effective. The simple fact is it isn't going to stop unless the world takes decisive action, and since that isn't likely to happen anytime soon we are right back to square one, with Israel committing massive crimes against humanity and nobody doing anything about it.
