State governments have sold State owned assets to corporations and fund their political agendas. The entire manufacturing industry (including automotive) is in shambles, the building industry is ruined because owning a home now cost more than 10 times a yearly wage & is out of reach a lot of people.
What it appears has happened is, the 1.5% of the population (upper class) has created 3% of the population (middle class) to manage a 95.5% of the population (lower class) slave labour force.edit on 30/1/12 by spearhead because: toad
...public on one side, Government on the other, considered as two distinct beings; the latter bound to bestow upon the former, and the former having the right to claim from the latter, all imaginable human benefits. What will be the consequence?
Government is not maimed, and cannot be so. It has two hands - one to receive and the other to give; in other words, it has a rough hand and a smooth one.
that good hand which gives and distributes, will be very busy under the government of the reformers. You think, perhaps, that it will be the same with the rough hand - that hand which dives into our pockets. Do not deceive yourselves. The aspirants after popularity would not know their trade, if they had not the art, when they show the gentle hand, to conceal the rough one.

Om the Gold Coast all the taxi drivers are indians . I noticed the same in Brisbane too. So tell me how this happened as Taxi driving used to be the domain of older men and students ?

Funny you say that, I was talking to a cab driver asking about weekend work.
He said yeah no probs, you could probably pick up $200-$250 a day as a taxi driver.. just sit the course, responding to the add and drive.
Now that would be cool.

Hmmm, you have obviously have never travelled to sh#*tholes like Indonesia or most of Africa then. In those countries the people worry about just being able to eat, and being shot by the warring factions - not whether they can afford a house or the latest car.
Sure Australia could be better, but so could any place. A lot of people on other countries would give their right eye to live here. Look at how many boats full of those annoying illegal immigrants rock up - they wouldn't want to come here if it were no better than where they came from......edit on 29-1-2012 by markosity1973 because: (no reason given)

60 grand a year ,over a thousand a week,I would be living the highlife on that sort of money
Your thread title is insulting. Even if I earn bugga all... I am not lower class. If you are going to base your self esteem on how much you earn then forget it. I am on an average wage. 37k maybe plus some perks.... but I work full time, pay maintenance but I don't agree that I am lower class.
also the 10% increase in gst also effective as of june 1 totalling to 20% gst!!!!!!!!
