I apologize I could not think of a better place to post this topic.

I was thinking of purchasing a book by David Lindsay called "Voyage to Arcturus". It is a novel (sci-fi) that is supposed to have a strong gnostic theme to it. Has anyone read it before?

And another thing, can anyone here recommend a good novel that has a gnostic theme running through it?

Hi agnostos,
I was hoping you could define or be more specific with the term gnostic. Just not as smart as most I guess!

Here's the Wikipedia entry for Gnosticism - it has a history, etc.

esoteric knowledge of spiritual truth held by the ancient Gnostics to be essential to salvation-Webster

Is that what you mean? Not Christian is it?

There have been pagan gnostic movements and there certainly have been fully christian gnostic sects. Basically gnostics look for 'knowledge' and the like. Sometimes its numerology or searching for 'hidden' interpretations of texts and such, and often gnostics, I think, have a tendency to look at the material world as basically 'evil' and the intellectual/spiritual/emotional world as basically 'good'. But all thats a rather poor paraphrase of a long and tradition. I think the apochrypal Gospel of St Thomas is gnostic too?
