The number of earthquakes is not increasing. That is pretty well established. What is changing is our ability to locate smaller and smaller quakes. Only a small fraction of the estimated 1.3 million quakes a year are located. The rise in the number of disasters is simply due to humans spreading into less safe areas due to population pressures.
