Hey guys, I wanna know if you could have any song that describes your life so far, what would it be? Also why have you picked that certain song? I'm interested to see what people come up with
Personally mine would be Hometown glory - Adele. I've loved this song for years, It touches me when I hear it. It reminds me of home and I listen to it when I am feeling a bit homesick

Mine would be "Rodeo Man" by Chris Ledoux. Best times of my life were when i was riding bulls, made me a better person, albeit with a few more scars now but a better person

"Illusion" by VNV Nation

I was always the misunderstood child. These lyrics are the words I needed to hear when I decided to be different, but nobody ever spoke them to me so growing up was even more troubling. I won't let this world change me. They don't deserve to have me on their side.

Here's mine:

Written by Lindsey Buckingham.

Listen to the wind on the water
Listen to the waves upon the shore
Try to sleep, sleep won't come
Just as I begin to fade

Then I remember
When the moon was full and bright
I would take you in the darkness
And do the tango in the night
Tango...

I keep the dream in my pocket
Never let it fade away
Inside, outside
No loneliness in this dream

Then I remember
When the moon was full and bright
I would take you in the darkness
And do the tango in the night
Tango...

Gotta make some joyful sounds in all this doom and gloom.

Take time to give thanks
Make time to be given
I'm going to stop and think twice
About the way that I'm living

Did I say a kind word
Am I proud of my actions
You know a job well done
Gives me satisfaction

Can I earn your trust
Your love and affection
Just one step at a time
In the right direction

Going to aim for the sky
Keep my feet on the ground
Raise my voice to the heavens
Make a joyful sound

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Naaaaaaa....
Make a joyful sound

Can I sing for my supper
And play for my rent
I know it sounds funny
But it's how my time's spent

Greet everyday with full purpose
With passion and pride
I'm going to follow my heart
And have nothing to hide

A moment of insight
I know why I'm here
You know when the time just stops
See it all real clear

I've got to set an example
Make some mischief and fun
Do unto others and
Play a fat bass run

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Naaaaaaa....
Make a joyful sound I got to work hard everyday
And give it my best
Grab hold of fear and negativity
And lay them to rest

I know my time here's important
Can I do the right thing?
Practice patience and forgiveness
Feel the joy that they bring

Can I lay down tonight
Without feeling regret?
I know the love that I give
Becomes the love that I get

Well do you hear what I'm saying
Making sense to you?
Well if you feel it in your heart
Then you might want to sing too

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Naaaaaaa....
Make a joyful sound

I don't want to sound preachy
Make you feel all wrong
Just want to write some kind lyrics
Sing a feel good song

It's kind of hard to explain
It is just a feeling I get
From making music making love
Getting both feet wet

Well every piece to the puzzle
Snapped tight to the groove
I Close my eyes breathe deeply and
Let my feet move

You know I feel a little better
Now for speaking my mind
Good vibes in circulation and
See who they find

The video to your song really speaks to me, I feel it is how alot of young girls feel growing up. We see on Tv or in magazines how we "should" look and feel pressure to conform to that image. Thanks for sharing

Gilbert O'Sullivan - Alone Again (Naturally)

In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower

And climbing to the top
Will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to whoever
What it's like when you're shattered

Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying: "My God, that's tough"
"She stood him up"
"No point in us remaining"

"We may as well go home"
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally

To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to but wouldn't do
The role I was about to play?

But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces

Leaving me to doubt
Talk about God in His mercy
For if He really does exist
Why did He desert me?

In my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally

It seems to me that there are more hearts
Broken in the world that can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?

Alone again, naturally

Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears

At sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken

Leaving her to start
With a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken

And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally

Alone again, naturally

This has always been a deeply personal song for me since childhood.

Thank you, Gilbert for a truly timeless & wonderful song.

Korn - "Are You Ready To Live?"

The chorus especially....always gets me teary eyed every time too. Jon Davis always has a habit of writing the very words I'm feeling a lot of the time.

This is not really the theme tune to my life, but it certainly had the greatest effect on it of any tune.

Picture:

Summer of 89, just leaving school to go into a boring humdrum job, in a boring humdrum relationship with a girl that just wanted babies, parents that wanted nothing more for me than to do what they did and pretend to be happy with it, friends that were thugs and minor gangsters, street brawls most weekends, then, BOOM,

Planet E!

This tune and a couple of others changed everything. It got me into the club scene, which meant a bunch of new friends, end of boring relationship with baby wanting girl, summers in Ibiza and Barcelona, a new found thirst for travel, life and work on three different continents, numerous troubled but ultimately very worthwhile relationships with girls from different cultures, and only a few unhappy, boring years back in England since.

Funny how things work out. I'd love to buy K C a beer or twenty.

Nice thread OP.

Cheers for the reply, I'm loving all the stories people are posting about why they have picked a certain song. I like how people can hear a song sometimes and identify with it.

Well, most of my life, I pretty much just skated by... finding joy where I could:

But, for the past year and a half or so, I've been actively trying to make every single day joyful:

Almost there.

Hey guys, I wanna know if you could have any song that describes your life so far, what would it be?

Hmm.... Kind of tough, actually. Plenty of songs that describe parts of my life... but not one that really is the song of what's happened to me in life. ... Though - I interpret "song of my life" to be a song of who I am.

To which - there's a good candidate: "Song of Myself" - from Nightwish's album: Imaginaerum:

In particular, the first 5-minutes of the song are applicable (it is, oddly enough, one of the songs I am most disappointed in from this album, and it hardly compares with their previous 10+ minute epic pieces, in my opinion).

"The nightingale is still locked in the cage
The deep breath I took still poisons my lungs
An old oak sheltering me from the blue
Sun bathing on its dead frozen leaves

A catnap in the ghost town of my heart
She dreams of storytime and the river ghosts
Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the ride
Raving harlequins, gigantic toys

A song of me, a song in need
Of a courageous symphony
A verse of me, a verse in need
Of a pure heart singing me to peace

All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angel wing

All that great heart lying still
In silent suffering
Smiling like a clown until the show has come to an end
What is left for encore
Is the same old dead boy's song
Sung in silence
All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angel wing

A midnight flight into Covington Woods
A princess and a panther by my side
These are Territories I live for
I'd still give my everything to love you more

A song of me, a song in need
Of a courageous symphony
A verse of me, a verse in need
Of a pure heart singing me to peace

All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angel wing

Now all that great heart lying still
In silent suffering
Smiling like a clown until the show has come to an end
What is left for encore
Is the same old dead boy's song
Sung in silence

All that great heart lying still and slowly dying
All that great heart lying still on an angel wing
"

The music is my style - A smooth flow between abrupt bursts, synergistic, and purposed. The lyrics simply reinforce it, and tell a very interesting tale of conflict and mystique.

The only problem with listening to this song is coming up with something equally epic to do during that time.
