At least that's what a senior IDF commander told Netanyahu's Cabinet last year sometime !!
(according to Time magazine)

The "official" said Israel has limited capabilities against Iran's nuclear facilities and at best could only delay Tehran's program for about a year !!

Latest update 21:30 26.01.12
Haaretz

But like a man, he said:
“I informed the cabinet we have no ability to hit the Iranian nuclear program in a meaningful way,” the official quoted the senior commander as saying. “If I get the order I will do it, but we don’t have the ability to hit in a meaningful way.”

The Haaretz article does not mention the "official"'s name however.
perhaps for "security" reasons

BUT
Earlier Thursday, former IDF chief Gabi Ashkenazi said that Israel must do all it can to operate under the radar against Iran, but should simultaneously prepare for a possible strike against Tehran's nuclear facilities.

"Israel must do all it can under the radar and combine that with paralyzing sanctions, but at the same time keep a reliable military option on the table with the willingness to use it if necessary," Ashkenazi said.

"When the moment comes I don't know if we won't be alone, and for this reason Israel must also rely on itself," he said.

Time Magazine quotes Israeli defense official as saying that Israel can only delay Tehran's nuclear program by several months, at most a year.
The article also has a picture of an Iranian nuclear facility.

What is the Point of this Haaretz report ?

Maybe a Renewed Appeal for "Help"

I agree, this is a subtle reminder that Israel is demanding help for the slaughter of Iranians. Typical bully can't fight their own fights when it gets down to the dirty. They are pretty tough when they're dropping bombs on Lebanon or Gaza, not so much going up against Iran unless they nuke them.

Here's some info about Iran air defenses.

Maybe this is one reason Israel wants "help"....

They want somebody else to take the losses.

An Iranian general says the Islamic Republic has built an ingenious air defense system which surpasses the Russian S-300. Moscow intended to provide S-300s to Teheran, but canceled the sale due to UN sanctions against Iran.

"The flaws and defects of the S-300 system have been corrected in the indigenous version of the system and its conceptual designing has been finished,” Fars news agency quoted Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili as saying on Tuesday.

The commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base said the surface-to-air missile system is dubbed Bavar-373 and uses two or three different types of missiles to attack aerial targets, depending on their altitude.

Iran has been developing a long-range air defense system for several years and first tested it last year. Some military experts speculated that the technology may have been borrowed from China. China was one of the several legitimate buyers of the Russian system.

Better than S-300: Iran boasts of air defense system

and a Haaretz article from last November:
Iran to hold air defense drill simulating Israeli attack on its nuclear sites

The Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that the drill was aimed at ensuring Iran was ready for any attacks on its nuclear facilities and other strategic sites.

Maybe Iran isn't as ass-backwards as some say !!

The average pool player just tries to make the shot.

A good pool player plans the shot so that the cue ball is set up for the next shot.

A great pool player makes every shot with the plan to clear the table.

The Israelis are fundamentally evil but they are not stupid. They do make mistakes. The Israeli military is good but has not won every battle they have fought and they have a bad habit of underestimating their opponents.

Iran is a huge country and there are several nuclear research / production sites.

No serious person claims that Iran has nuclear weapons.

If Israel used nuclear weapons to strike a nation that does not have nuclear weapons it might be difficult for the governments of France, Germany, the UK, Australia and dozens of other countries that are not now hostile to Israel to hold back their citizens from a complete boycott of Israel or hld back the citzens from thowing out pro-Israel governments and replacing them with governments that will sanction Israel.

Israel has a tiny economy and it can not handle a comprehensive boycott of its exports.

In other words it could "make the shot" but the cue ball be in a position to preclude any other action.

Israel can't hit that nuclear site in a meaningful way? Poppycock. One nuke would be all you need, the emp blast would fry every circuit board, and computer component they have and then that crap would melt down. It doesn't get anymore meaningful than that.

No serious person claims that Iran has nuclear weapons.

No serious person claims they can ever know everything about another country. People keep secrets and people tell lies. No serious person would discount the possiblity that they have nuclear weapons. They've reached 20% enrichment and thats enough for weapons grade uranium. Hence why Russia backed the hell away from them and started taking them more seriously...like rabid dog seriously.

They've had a nucear program for far longer than the world has known about it i can guarantee you that. The fact that they have all those underground hidden research facilities lends credence that theyre hiding the fact that therye making nuclear weapons and the fact that they've been testing rockets capable of carrying a nuclear payload also speaks volumes about their intentions. No serious person...sticks their head in the sand and pretends that what is happening, is not happening.

No but we can have a very good guess.

No serious person would discount the possiblity that they have nuclear weapons.

No but it's very very very very very very very unlikely. Winning the jackpot at the lottery twice in the same day would be more likely.

They've reached 20% enrichment and thats enough for weapons grade uranium.

Wroooooooooooong. You believed the medias didn't you? Weapon grade is 90%+ not 20%.

They've had a nucear program for far longer than the world has known about it i can guarantee you that.

Yeah, since the 90s. Yet, still no nuke. They didn't even buy enriched uranium from Kazakhstan after the break up of the Soviet Union because they fail so much. And that enriched uranium was CHEAP. For a few million, you could have enough enriched uranium for 20-30 nukes. Yet Iran didn't buy any of it. But eh, they want nukes... RIGHT...

The fact that they have all those underground hidden research facilities lends credence that theyre hiding the fact that therye making nuclear weapons

No it gives credence that warmongers in Israel want to bomb Iran and Iran want to protect their site.

the fact that they've been testing rockets capable of carrying a nuclear payload also speaks volumes about their intentions.

Right. The UN report said that it COULD be used for that or it could be for CONVENTIONAL rockets, which they have the right to do.

No serious person...sticks their head in the sand and pretends that what is happening, is not happening.

And no serious person doesn't remember the lies of the US government to attack Iraq.
