Newt had only 1 ethics charge.

He actually had 84 ethics violation charges, and a very serious tax fraud charge: Newt copped a plea bargain and 83 of the charges were dropped and the tax fraud charge went away.

He paid the fine.

Yes, he did. And he resigned.

My suggestion is that Pelosi knows the details of the 'plea bargain' that got him off those 83 other charges and the tax fraud charge in exchange for the fine and the resignation.

By the way, you are not suggesting that Newt's ethics charge and fine is the equivalent to a parking ticket, are you? You aren't saying that someone with such a background is qualified to be president, are you? I just want to be sure of your motives here, because it appears that you are trying to minimize the offense in this way.

Pelosi was on a witch hunt.

Please expand on that a bit? What witch hunt are you referring to? Or did you just misspeak and were referring to her remarks that have gave rise to this thread?

It was a simple case of piling on.

Almost all of the bogus charges had no merit WHATSOEVER.

This was just Pelosis way of making old garbage bounce.

Perjury and tax fraud are not piling on and they were very serious charges.

From the archives: Washington Post 18 January 1997: Ethics Panel Supports Reprimand of Gingrich.

Notice that the Ethics Commitee was headed by a Republican (they were the majority after all, Newt was Speaker) and that they definitely did not consider the charges without merit. You are trying to rewrite history, here and it is not an attractive look.

And yes, of course Pelosi is playing politics. She is a politician, and a political opponent of Gingrich, but she is just twisting the knife that the other GOP candidates put in his back, after all.

Pelosi has already back tracked and said she has nothing secret to reveal.

It's over.

Now it's all Mitt Romney / Gordon Gekko.

Try to keep up.

Meh, I've been camping with no electronics for company for the last 3 days.

That doesn't change the fact that Newt has a demonstrable life long problem with the ability to distinguish right from wrong, whether dealing with his wives, being honest with Congress, or his taxes and creative accounting.

As Speaker of the House, he was third in line to the Presidency and found it impossible to conduct himself in a trustworthy manner. That's a pretty lousy resume for an applicant for the top job.

The people of South Carolina took that all into account and handed Newt a

landslide victory ! 41% shellacking of Mitt Romney!

The American people see the US economy as their #1 concern.

Your attempt to make old garbage bounce has failed. Move on.

The people of the entire country took Obama's Kenyan father into account and elected him in a landslide. That doesn't stop birther's lying about him and the Constitution. So why should a few South Carolinians stop people from telling the truth about Newt?
