USS Lincoln sails through Strait of Hormuz

US Navy officials report the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and its battle group steamed through the Strait of Hormuz into the Persian Gulf Sunday without incident. It's the first US carrier to pass through the Strait since the Iranians threatened to attack the aircraft carrier Stennis three weeks ago, if it attempted to return to the Persian Gulf. Pentagon and US military officials have made it clear that Iranian threats would not deter the US Navy from operating in international waters in the Strait and the Gulf.

I wonder what this will mean for Iran as far as not living up to its threats against other countries. Although I'm not sure why Iran is concerned about international waters and whose military is in them. Maybe Iran doesn't want to do anything with force until they have China's and Russia's approval.

Iran has previously stated that they no longer consider it a threat as they realise that the Naval fleet passing through is routine.

Kind of like the guy that brags about how big and tough he is and how he's going to kick ass, yet does absolutely nothing in a confrontation but make excuses as to why he NEVER took the action he promised.

IRAN looks even more pathectic than before.

The EU sanctions have just been approved today as well-which will disrupt the flow of oil through the strait.
That is what Iran said it will not tolerate,and will shut down the strait if it happens.
Well is has just been approved today...
So If Iran are not bluffing,expect to see them try to close the strait soon,which will as planned,lead to war IMO.
More needless carnage over oil will ensue.

There is a big difference between steaming through the straight and docking in the straight or even wondering around the straight.

I don't think the original threat was ever about just passing through the straight, but rather about a long presence of a US carrier in the straight

Uhm no... The Iranian threat was clear.

Keep the aircraft carrier out of the Arabian gulf (Persian gulf). Any attempt to bring it in will be met with military force on the part of the Iranians. Iran also stated if the oil sanctions become effective they would shut the straights down.

So far they are 2 for 2 on making threats their egos cant cash.

Nobody really "wonders" about the strait or anchors in the strait - it is against the UN maritime rules and can be delt with the the strait -- by nature of being a strait is only six miles wide and is divided into two shipping lanes.

Traffic is pretty controlled.

If they block it it won't stay blocked for long.
