To be frank, I'm totally lost at how this has anything to do with my post.

If you're talking about my saying the need for guns is because of criminals and countering that by asking sarcastically about other countries not having crime, I would challenge you to understand that other countries are not the U.S.

You outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them, leaving the rest of the populace defenseless. And as for the police? Yeah, right. Half the time, there'll be enough time to kill you, raid your house, and play a game of Parcheesi on your corpse by the time the cops get there.

1. I stood there and watched one of my sister's boyfriends smart off at a cop and get a broken jaw with a billy club. Did he deserve to a good bop on the shoulder? Probably. Did he deserve a broken jaw? Absolutely not. Maybe you ought to ask somebody's experiences before you go shooting your mouth of about how maybe it's just me.

2. There's a lot of meth-heads around where I'm from, hardcore junkies every last one them.

Is this a trick question?

Look at the recent gun sales.

Look at the state of the local state.

Police layoff Fire layoffs civilian layoffs. Crime is up big time and they are cracking down hard on the tax payer to try to recoup state revenue. Cutting employee benifits and increase workload of individuals who are picking up the slack for the people laid off and then be threatened with termination.

Do you see what is going on?

It is happening now.

Just the masses are still sleeping because there checks are still rolling in.

And American Idol is on tonight.'

Look at the state of local government.

I think it was Juan Williams who did a piece on the likelihood of ever achieving gun control in America, back when the sun set on Clinton's assault weapons ban.

While it was speculation, his conclusion (and I think he's for gun control) was that if you shut down all US gun and ammo production, and totally sealed the borders, it would take something like 40 years of law enforcement to remove guns from American society.

He pointed out that if you outlawed hunting and sport shooting, it would take even longer, because there would be absolutely no depletion of existing ammo stocks.

Seriously, police routinely confiscate guns used in crime that are 40 - 60 years old. And if you live in an area where deer hunting is important, you have probably seen working-class hunters using M1's and even Mauser K98's.

Additionally, serious shootists will often purchase ammo in bulk, meaning that a rifle or pistol owner may have 300 or more rounds of ammunition--enough to last through several years of routine use, or decades if used only covertly.

American Guns aren't going anywhere in this generation.

Mostly we do it, not so much for disasters, but for the sake of self sufficiency. Canning, freezing, drying...it saves quite alot of money in the long run. Money that can be used to buy GUNS!!! . That this sort of self sufficiency helps in a time of turmoil, well that's a side benefit.

I learned how to can fruits and vegetables when I was very young...my mom taught all of us kids how. Being a child of the depression, she, and my dad, were taught in a tougher school than any I've ever experienced. I hope I've learned from her example... I'm going to learn from a friend how to jerk, and/or dry all sorts of meat. Fish, venison, beef, chicken, etc...

Buying bulk, and preserving saves so much money.

So that's my thinking on it.

Might I suggest, if you don't already, learn to preserve them? Helps a lot, and you can grow more, cutting those grocery bills by a lot.

As you can see in the responses, there is no “One” reason. The reasons are as varied as the days in the year.

All of them are related to stress of some type.

For me, it’s a combination of things.

The increasing pressure from a growing wild animal population. The one gun I had was no longer adequate for the situations I was having to deal with. That problem is primarily caused by the influence of rabid environmentalist that hold the value of a wild animal higher than that of a human’s. They hold back any reasonable attempt to moderate the wild animal population until it is literally overrunning the homes and communities.

Seeing the negative influence that gun control has on a population’s crime element, namely the in the UK, and France. You can’t make guns disappear. When you outlaw their ownership, the only ones that will have them are the ones with no regard for the law. The law abiding citizens are left defenseless.

Knowing that there has been an increasing number of bad apples that have filtered out to the countryside from the cities, and hearing where people have had break-ins. I want something with a one shot stop capability. The police can’t help when someone breaks in. When you come to grips with that fact, then you understand that you are responsible for your own defense.

As the old adage goes. The only way evil will win is if the good do nothing.

I can see the misguided logic of the law makers who don’t understand any of that. And I am going to stand with everyone else in opposition to them. So by stocking up, I am sending my own little message to them to pound sand.

And last but not least. The way a pop bottle explodes when it’s hit with a 12 gauge is just freaking cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
