As per Wiki; Ghost Recon's story

Ghost Recon begins in April 2008, with civil unrest in Russia borne out of an ultra-nationalist regime that came to power and placed its leader, Dmitri Arbatov, as president. The ultranationalists form the Russian Democratic Union (RDU) and conquer Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, with eyes set on the other former Soviet republics. During the first few missions of the game, the Ghosts battle Georgian rebels who are harassing the legitimate government and its allies. Their presence forces the Russian government to complain to the United Nations that the Americans have interfered in their affairs and eventually send in the army to aid the rebels. The Ghosts slow down the invading forces while foreign nationals evacuate the country. Eventually, the Ghosts are all that's left of US forces in Georgia and take the last helicopter out of the American Embassy in T'bilisi just as Russian forces storm the complex. The Georgian government flees to Geneva and sets up a government-in-exile while the RDU assimilates Georgia, an act publicly condemned by the United States, Great Britain, and Germany.

This paralleled (almost to the date)

On 20 April, a Russian jet shot down a Georgian reconnaissance drone flying over Abkhazia.[62][100][104] After the incident Saakashvili deployed 12,000 Georgian troops to Senaki.[105] Georgian interior ministry officials showed the BBC video footage, which Georgia said showed Russian troops deploying heavy military hardware in the breakaway region of Abkhazia. According to Georgia, "it proved the Russians were a fighting force, not just peacekeepers." Russia strongly denied the accusations.[106] Both countries also accused each other of flying jets over South Ossetia, violating the ceasefire.

I think Tom Clancy was just well informed of possible future conflicts.

They don't really predict the future, it's more like they develope the future. Star Trek gave us Trekies and these fans decided to create cell phones like the ones used on the shows. Everything we see changes the future in some way by steering the evolution of our perception and also by shaping our desires. Hollywood has a big effect on the world wether we admit it or not. Sometimes if you ask the world for the answer to a question, you get you're answer in a TV show or someone comes up and gives you the answer without asking. The answer isn't really in the show but it triggers something inside us to percieve it is. I don't understand how it works but that's just one of the puzzling things our mind can do. The net is a good research aid but caution has to be taken not to jump to conclusions too quickly. We seem to interpret evidence to fit into our way of thinking and don't look for things that contradict our knowledge or way of life. Most sciences are guilty of misinterpretation of evidence so it's nothing to be worried about. Everyone sees things different based on their knowledge and experiences. It is way more interesting to believe the games are predicting the future though, so do it if you want. It hurts noone.
